Seminar on rape culture - UPDATE

I started this thread a while ago asking for advice on how to present a lecture on feminism to year 12.

Well I did the seminar yesterday and it went really well. :o I had a group of 7 girls who took the class and they seemed to really enjoy it and get what was going on.

I have posted the resources I made/used here in case anyone wants to steal them.

We started off my discussing the sexist advertising images on the slides and then moved on to the culture of victim-blaming as shown through the rape prevention posters that tell women not to drink or walk home alone.

We then looked at some tv adverts that showed women doing housework and bringing up children and talked about how these ads damage women and men by putting them into prescribed gender roles.

I then gave them a bunch of women's and men's mags to look through and pick out some sexism.

They spent the next two hours making a presentation for the rest of the sixth form on what they learned and did so so well.

Just to report a bit of a success in the movement really :o
