I cannot understand how we go on living in a world where the sexual and physical violence experienced by women and children can be so neglected as a global human issue. The whole porn thing, sexualisation and comodification of females and the abuse scandals leave me feeling there is no hope and sometimes regretting bring children into this world. And what about all the private non publicized horrors experienced by people who do not recover or get justice. Is this world basically a nasty place with more bad people and victims than we care to admit? I just don't get it. What do we do? I don't think there is such a thing as humanity anymore and think maybe we just believe in a greater good because the alternative is too frightening.

Whenever you focus on any negative, you notice it much more than you would have before. Like when I breastfed in public for the first few times, I saw bottles and dissaproving looks everywhere I looked, or how a papercut doesn't hurt untill you realise you've got one. I'm sure that every feminist has days where it all gets a bit much and the whole world just seems a bit shit, and a lost cause. You just have to put things in perspective, we've made changes before and we'll make them again, we probably won't see true gender equality in our lifetime, but that's not such a bitter pill when you consider we will have made huge steps towards that goal and it will happen one day (or I like to believe it will anyway)
chin up chuck :)

Patriarchy is a nasty place. What you're describing is the horrors that men inflict on women and children in order to maintain illegitimate male power. Patriarchy will be defeated though.

"is the world really just totally f*ed up?" Oh sure. But are people generally unhappy? Not really. So maybe it's not too bad.

It's because women and girls aren't seen by the male powers that be as 'fully' human. If this was happening to men they'd do something.
