Mumsnet deleted it. Apparently, there's nowhere on the site for petitions.
Signed enough petitions through this site during my time here, under various guises to know that's not completely true.

Thanks for the heads up, JellyKat.
Oh. Goodness. Really?!
Ooops, I bumped it

Hmmm, apparently, not an issue if the thread allows for discussion...
Which would have turned thread into an MRA's free for all. (been here long enough to see that happen)
Just seems such a pedantic rule.
Anyway, less discussion of the rules, before I earn myself a ban or something.
Why on earth does the government see cutting funding to these resources as acceptable? I don't get it.
They see the stats, they know two women are killed each week by former or current partners. Are they TRYING to increase that number? Because that's what's going to happen.
They are cutting everything
.
I see it every day and it makes me grow a stomach ulcer with powerless rage... so not good for general serenity.

But the thing is, none of these cuts benefit society, or the economy. None of them.
In fact, the reverse will happen.
the bigger the rich/poor divide gets, the poorer our country will get, in the bigger scheme of things.
We can't afford that.
Thought we were all in this together, Dave.

We also can't afford what it will cost to put women and children back together if they can't get support when they need it and are in a position to access it.
It had taken decades to build up the current infrastructure, and it was done on a shoestring as it was, using masses of goodwill and commitment from volunteers.
These cuts will damage something very valuable and efficient.
It's so, so sad and infuriating.

I did find myself wondering recently if we'd find ourself going the way of the US state which recently tried de-criminalising domestic abuse in order to save money. It's something I could almost see Cameron's Cronies trying...
<I have a lot of faith in the Tories, y'know...>

Which state was that?
You could argue that it's barely criminal as things stand [cynical], but that's too glib.
It feels like an important line has been crossed when refuges are now having to turn women away. It always felt before that even though things were really tight, when a woman really needed help something would be done, somehow, to make it happen.
It is scary to live in a country where that is no longer the case.

Ooh i've never been in this topic before (even tho' i was a subscriber to 'Spare Rib' many years ago) i thought it was s'posed to be a scarey place, but it doesn't look too bad in here..
I discussed the cuts last summer at my WA meeting, apparently the cuts hadn't affected the Welsh WA groups, as the Welsh Assembly (Labour led) were still allocating the same amount of funds, i pray it's the same this year.

Welcome to FWR, JellyKat. We don't bite too often.
I'm contemplating approaching our local MP (unfortunately Tory) about the issue. Generally, he's a little more left wing in his ideologies, from what I've gathered, so HOPEFULLY, can get him onside with this.
It's just a great big kick in the teeth. I remember telling people before the election that the Tories cared only for upper class men... I've been proven right, I suspect.

Awww Thank you
I just don't understand why people aren't kicking off, i suspect it's because the cuts are all coming like a Tidal wave, we're too overwhelmed about which to protest about.. It's all absolutely doing my head in!
I remember when Thatcher was in, people were angrier, what's going on?

I'm not sure.
Have we just been eroded by the way things have gone? or is it going to take something spectacular. I'm trying to think of a phenomenal (but legal) way to get the message across to the government, should the petition fail.

Have just checked on a brilliant Organisations' Website, they reach a lot of people, no campaigns against these cuts suggested as yet..Maybe we should suggest, it would reach a lot of people
Have a look

Jelly, I will take a deeper look at that in the morning. Thanks for the suggestion.
Just trying to think what the most effective way of campaigning would be.

Sun 12-Feb-12 23:28:59
Well we could ring WA, see if they've got any campaigns directly attached to them, or if they've got any ads/ awareness campaigns planned that might need help with fund raising etc.. Just a thought, off to bed now
