Two small happy feminist moment yesterday

Hooray, it seems my feminist rants are starting to rub off on DH - he said yesterday that they were talking about the strikes on the radio and how all the women will have to take the day off to look after their DC. Yes, he noticed that they were assuming that it would be the women. It may be small, but significant none the less. If he's started to notice sexism in the media, perhaps his feminist awakening is around the corner.

And then I was ordering some Christmas pressies on 'tinterweb and one website had only two options for title - Mr and Ms. Another hooray!!!

Anyway, nothing huge in the grand scheme but with all the doom and gloom of how far we still have to go, especially when women's rights seem to be going backwards at the moment, I will enjoy these small victories where I can.

DD14 made gingerbread men today while I was at work, she sent me a message to say that as she is a feminist, she made half of them into gingerbread women. Xmas Smile

Dd has noticed by herself that it isn't fair that women can't play American football with the men. She wants to start a campaign about it

A very small act, but I refused to give my title the other day on the grounds that it served no purpose. Girl at checkout was a bit nonplussed but happily her computer didn't object to the shocking lack of status information and I could just be firstname surname in their system.

Three of us bought a present for a 2 year old girl's birthday. The card has a lion on it, and we chose the toy as it would appeal to her boisterous nature. It involves banging Grin.

I'm interested in feminism, and starting to read more (and get angrier). No idea about the other two's stance, but was just delighted pink, "girlie" things weren't even suggested.

Kickassangel if you mean American football in the states at a professional level, then yes it is segregated as are almost all sports. However if you mean amateur football in the uk, then it is already mixed.

Junior (tag) football was always mixed, with many girls playing at national level but on reaching 15 when they went up to Youth which was just for boys, all of the girls who were playing seemed to either give up or gravitate to one of the very few female teams. [small boast alert] The rules on youth players was changed back in 1995, the year I turned 15. I played for my local team and our manager was also the head of the UK league at the time. They had been wanting to change the rules for some time, but needed a girl to actually ask to join a Youth team for it to be brought up in front of some of the league members so I was the 'test case' person who signed up for our youth team. When our manager mentioned it to the rest of the league and stuck in that I was quite headstrong and likely to make a fuss, they agreed to change the rules on players gender so that teams could field a mixed team.

I was quite the novelty for the first season, with some of the teams we played away games against apologising profusely that I had to change in the toilets as they weren't equipped with male and female changing rooms. They just had home and away. It was freaking hilarious the first time I played against a team who knew I was there, as when I got the ball (I was a running back) there was a yell from the sidelines of "Noooooo it's number 42!" and I was met with a row of opposition with confused looks on their face as they didn't know whether to tackle me or not Hmm
