Male sexual response - netdoctor article making me feel uneasy

I just read this article about the male sexual response, written by two healthcare professionals on a website written by doctors aimed at providing medical information to the public.

It made me feel uneasy, especially the final sentence - the warning to women. What do you think of it? Am I being irrational?

Oh my god, it deserves quoting:

"Your man today
But let's bring it up to date. What about your man today?
Well, it should be the case that recent centuries of civilisation have had an effect on him ? so that he does not try to impregnate every nice-looking woman he meets.
Nonetheless, the following are fairly safe assumptions:
your man is very keen on sex.
he thinks about it a lot ? much more often than you do!
however romantic and gentle he may be, deep down one of his major objectives in life is to get his penis inside you.
and once it's in there, he has a deep, driving 'biological imperative' to reach a climax - and pump his sperm into you.

Oral and rectal sex
So ingrained is this instinct to impregnate a woman that many men appear keen to accept any available female orifice ? even if it?s not the vagina. That?s why a very high proportion of men desire oral sex and a substantial minority (and it does still appear to be a minority) are keen on anal sex.

Conclusion
So, the average male is more interested in sex than the average female and is much more likely to:
feel very strong urges to have intercourse
take sexual risks, regardless of the consequences
be unfaithful
try 'commercial' (ie paid for) sex.
The slightest thing can set a man off ? for instance:
the sight of a woman's cleavage
a well-shaped bottom
a good pair of legs
even a whiff of perfume.
So, female readers, never underestimate the power of a man's sexual response.
You have been warned!"

I like the idea that the urge to reproduce is so strong that a man will stick his penis into a woman's bum or mouth. Not very clever are they, according to this article.

What an absolute pile of codswollop! It sounds like they are talking about rutting stags, not human beings with actual brains that aren't always located in their penises. If I were a bloke, I'd be furious with the crass assumptions being made about all men in that article.

I also detest the tone taken when addressing women, which is very much, all-men-are-driven-by-their-dicks-and-you-just-have-to-suck-that-up-sometimes-literally. It's worrying if women are turning to the site as a reputable source of information, say if they are concerned their partner is being unfaithful, or he's asked her to do something she feels uncomfortable about as the advice just seems to be, "tough luck." Conversely, if a woman read that say concerned that her partner isn't as interested in sex as she is, it only suggests that he is a freak of nature, and so probably is she.

How does one complain?

(Meeting over, must go home. Pooped.)

I've emailed a complaint to webmaster@net doctor.co.uk, referencing the link, www.netdoctor.co.uk/sex_relationships/facts/malesexualresponse.htm. I don't know if it will make any difference

Good to know I'm not going mad then, I toned down my response to the article in my OP because I didn't want to lead any replies. I think I was particularly disturbed that the article didn't mention masturbation once as a form of release for this urge. The whole article was about how men having to have sex with women, although it conceded that the exact orifice didn't matter.

Deardgloom - thanks for your response. Please could you clarify if you are male or female? I showed this article to two different men and they both found it amusing - I think it was the mention of bottoms that set them off. But I struggled to find the humour in being told that because men need sex they are more likely to be unfaithful or pay for prostitutes. And then that I had been warned.

Has anyone read the porn article and the female sexual response article alongside this appalling one?

Who the hell writes this shit? Who is funding this crap site?

noblegiraffe,

One of the authors is a female psychotherapist. Usually when you see an exclamation mark at the end of a phrase like that, it's a dead giveaway that
the writer has their tongue in their cheek. The only response to a ridiculous complaint like that is a loud fart.
Some people need to get a life.

I am REALLY offended by that article. This is the only bit that is probably correct.

"Nonetheless, the following are fairly safe assumptions:
your man is very keen on sex.
he thinks about it a lot ? much more often than you do!

The rest quite frankly describes a small minority of men who most women would not want to be anywhere near.

You actually htink this is satire, Deargdoom, like the Onion? D'you think the articles on anti-biotics, earache, asthma etc. are also satirical?

Why are you here?

"So ingrained is this instinct to impregnate a woman that many men appear keen to accept any available female orifice..." Confused

Apparently when a woman orgasms she "nearly passes out". Alrighty then!

I'm thinking about sex right now, MoreBeta

How does that divvy of a doctor know any of that stuff to be true?

Report
EleanorRathbone · 24/11/2011 21:26

I think you should complain as a man MoreBeta. They'll take it more seriously coming from you. Whenever women say, actually, men have brains and hearts as well as pricks, we're told that we're unrealistic, naieve or romantic as everyone knows men are savages really

Actually scrap it, when men agree with women that they're not all savages, they're written off as gay or trying to get a shag by agreeing with women.

EleanorRathbone · 24/11/2011 21:27

The contradiction in needing to impregnate and then putting your dick into any hole available, is so glaring that I can understand why someone not very bright would mistake it for satire.

JeremyVile · 24/11/2011 21:28

Women are dainty little things who blush and lick their lips before swooning prettily from the emotional and physical exhaustion of the whole sordid business.

Men are little more than grunting dogs, jabbing their all powerful Givers-Of-Life at any passing female.
