Anyone else pissed off by advertisers' constant need to cause paranoia and fear to sell their products?

Because apparently, 100% of women don't like their armpits. (Who do they ask?) And if you have lovely armpits, it makes you feel confident and every success in life will be yours. FFS. hmm

Let's try that again with the links button ticked.

MY armpits are lovely and, um, hairy....

Did you want a philosophical discussion about it, or did you really just want to know about my armpits??? grin

ShatnersBassoon Tue 03-May-11 15:13:09

They're as wondrous as my groins. I didn't know they were supposed to be lovely.

SybilBeddows Tue 03-May-11 15:13:34

Mine are lovely too. And hairy!
They certainly didn't do their survey on here....

and yes, it is annoying.

SueSylvesterforPM Tue 03-May-11 15:13:47

my are as hairless as a toddlers well, shaving stubble. what do they mean by nice armpits ??

did anyone see crimson petal & the white I kept gettign flashes of her armpit hair & thought 'Ooh, ' everytime wierd how subconciously its instilled.

BitOfFun Tue 03-May-11 15:15:22

I remember a thread in Style and Beauty about someone worried about this once. I got short shrift when I told her to have a word with herself.

DooinMeCleanin Tue 03-May-11 15:15:33

I don't often notice them tbh. Am I meant to? confused

nethunsreject Tue 03-May-11 15:17:13

ooh, those dove ads drive me nuts.

I like the gruniad article.

Fwiw, my armpits are lovely grin Wish they had surveyed me.

DooinMeCleanin Tue 03-May-11 15:18:17

I wonder how they word the question. How many people would answer yes to "Are your armpits sexy?"

SueSylvesterforPM Tue 03-May-11 15:18:28

Why didnt we get this instead of the census haa, it was probably less invasive. (!)

fuzzywuzzy Tue 03-May-11 15:18:41

Mine are fab thank you for asking!

I find it hard to get worked up over ad campaigns. K never ever take any notice of them (unless they involve chocolate).

The only ad campaign I remember is the one with the naked man with a stilettoed foot hovering suggestively above his bum and the words 'put the boot in'.... I have no idea what the ad was for but I remember the billboards very clearly! Prolly says a lot about me hmm

ElephantsAndMiasmas Tue 03-May-11 15:21:08

Fucking gawgeous.

Well, they're just kind of joiny bits where my arms join my torso. I never knew they were supposed to be sexy. I will make sure to wear a long sleeve top with cheeky peepholes over the relevant areas next time I'm out on the town.

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet Tue 03-May-11 15:23:51

i would say i've never asked them confused

surely as long as they don't smell bad that's all that matters?

Insomnia11 Tue 03-May-11 15:26:28

I particularly detest Dove as they're "Oh we're right so on having models of all shapes and sizes in our posters" then their next step is to attempt to make women paranoid about their armpits.

I wonder what part of the body is left for them to target? Noses? Here have this nose-minimising creme.

SybilBeddows Tue 03-May-11 15:27:52

women don't worry about their noses anything like as much they used to - in lots of books from 1920s onwards they're obsessive about having shiny noses and keep on powdering them.
they could bring that back smile

ElephantsAndMiasmas Tue 03-May-11 15:28:55

My mum still thinks her nose is the worst part of her body. It's just a normal nose ffs.

I vote kneecap paranoia.

SybilBeddows Tue 03-May-11 15:33:03

I think women should worry about the relative lengths of all their fingers and go and get them trimmed/stretched if they are not exactly right.

the ads could say something like 'Worried about unsightly empty bits in your gloves?'
and 'I turned my fiance down three times because I knew the ring would draw attention to my hideous fingers, but now after £70000 worth of finger correction surgery I can finally say yes!'

you can have it done one finger at a time if you can't afford all of them. Then when everyone has had it done they can change the correct proportions and we will all have to have it done again!

I am an evil genius.

SybilBeddows Tue 03-May-11 15:33:42

and obv if you want to wear sandals you will have to have your toes done as well

TimeWasting Tue 03-May-11 15:35:44

I like my nose. I sometimes wish I had a nice big one though.

My armpits are lovely, especially now they are getting hairy as of this week.

SueSylvesterforPM Tue 03-May-11 15:36:37

My mum still thinks her nose is the worst part of her body

I have nose paranoia too lol I got shot in the nose so im like 'oh what I used to be' which is probably exaggerated.

colditz Tue 03-May-11 15:39:54

What?

I cannot recall over giving more that 7 second's thought to my armpits, which it the ocmbined time it takes me each day to wash, shave and deodorise them.

Apart from that, they are just there.

The ONLY bugbear I have about my body is that I am too fat. I am 3 stone overweight and if I don't get it off I'm going to inherit type 2 diabetes. My face, limbs, skin, hair etc is just fine.

ShoutyHamster Tue 03-May-11 15:41:17

Mine are incredible

EvenLessNarkyPuffin Tue 03-May-11 15:42:04

Is this the advert with the 'We gave women bells to wear'? They lost me there the patronising shits. I'm not a fucking cat.

Ormirian Tue 03-May-11 15:42:59

shock

Don't call them armpits! <shudder> They are underarms.

According to my deoderant hmm

And also according to my deoderant they will now be beautiful hmm hmm

I asked DH if he thought they were more beautiful. He told me he hadn't noticed.
