Feminist women wanted for PhD research.

Hi Everyone,

I am a PhD student in the Department of Psychosocial Studies, Birkbeck College, University of London

I am looking for women aged between 18 and 35 to take part in a study of women?s feminist identities.

As a participant in this study, you would be asked to take part in an interview about how you came to see yourself as a feminist and what being feminist means to you. This will involve talking about personal photos and images that say something about your feminism.

Your participation would involve one interview lasting approximately between one and two hours.

The age might be to do with feminist movements? A 35 year old would have been born in 1976 so missing out on the 70s activism etc. Just a guess.

I would sort of be interested but I don't have images or personal photos that mean something to me about feminism

Annie - I'm with you . As dittany pointed out too it seems to be a completely random remark!

I am older than you Hannah but I am not sure I am a baby boomer either (born early 70's?). Not sure what I have "taken" or why I have a sense of entitlement? Perhaps you would care to enlighten us?

I was just wondering whether feminism stopped being relevant when you were 35 or something (and younger than 18 - but I thought that limit might be legal requirements, CRB etc)?

i'd take part but i'm apparently too old.

shame. i would've been really interesting too. given that i tried to join the marines and all. ah well.



to be fair, students usually don't target those over 35 for research unless they are into gerontology. largely because that way they get to interview the other students at uni as participants. it makes for a much easier sample. (and easier to arrange interviews etc) and buggers up the research totally, because of course, well, not everyone in the world thinks like a student. always very depressing to wade through hundreds of 'research participants wanted' in uni e-mails at this time of year.

i'm a bit disappointed at being left out actually. i mean, i was born in the seventies ffs, so by the time i'd developed any sort of feminist consciousness everyone was watching dynasty and wearing shoulder pads and killer heels. hardly discounts me from participation on the grounds that i might have been tainted by a more activist era.

i mean, my mother was a cleaner. like her mother.

ethically it's more complicated to include under 18s - which is a shame, as i had some really interesting young people come forward who were desperate to talk about identifying as trans. ah well.

op - i'd love to see your info sheet - it might give us a better idea of your actual research.

don't worry about the reaction on here re radfems and birkbeck etc. when i tried to get participants using the web i didn't sleep for days because of the backlash on one board. haven't clicked on the burlesque link, but i assume that was naother site you advertised for participants on, to get some different opinions. after all, just listening to strident mn fems would just give you one pov. i'd be on burlesque sites too. and net mums. and babyworld. and a few of the other specific fem sites. you are obv casting your net as wide as poss, rather than sticking to fellow students, so yay!
