OK, now I know this is from the Daily Mail so it is a bit like shooting fish in a barrell, but really? Apparently David Willitts thinks it is all those nasty feminists fault that the gap between the rich and the poor had widended and that social mobility has decreased.

What an arse.

Can someone much more eloquent than me explain why this is so bloody wrong.

He misses the point.

Feminism and egalitarianism are not exclusive concepts (in fact they sit together). Middle class woman may have been feminism's beneficiaries in that they "benefited from educational opportunities denied to their mothers" but that is a POSITIVE. Yes, it would be nice if less privileged women also had those opportunities but I would argue that this is why feminism is needed now more than ever: it hasn't yet gone far enough for an awful lot of women.

And grammar schools have been hijacked by the middle classes? What has that got to do with feminism?

Arse indeed.
