A really interesting tv programme

is on tonight, BBC3. It's called 'The World's Most Dangerous Place for Women' and is a repeat. It is filmed in the Congo.

It is absolutely horrific but fascinating at the same time. I think it reminded me when I first watched it how important it is to be a feminist and to keep trying to change things.

I would be really interested to know what people think if you watch it.

yes anger is the feeling i am left with. anger and frustration. i just want to go and take all those women away and tell them it wont happen anymore but it will. it always will. there is far too much control to be gained from it happening, it will never stop.

But it would stop if the communities didn't shun the raped women - the rapists are doing it to destroy communities. They know what will happen to the women.

do you think that is a possibility? i mean, the woman who did the reconciliations was managing 8/9 a month and the weren't always succesful. the nurse at the hospital stated 20 rapes reported at the hospital in august, 13 so far for september and that is only teh ones who went to hospital, there will be more that didn't.

Probably not possible to change it any time soon, but that's the reason they do it, I think. I imagine any campaign to stop rape being used as a weapon would have to centre on getting the women's communities to care for them, not shun and stigmatise them.

absoloutely, i think that is the only way of combatting this. there is no chance at all of legal justice as a deterrant so preparing communities and educating them in dealing with and accepting the aftermath of it is key.
