FREEVIEW ADULT CHANNELS - PORN?

I would be interested to hear people's views on the accessibility of the ADULT CHANNEL section currently on FREEVIEW.
Whilst I believe that people should have the right to choose if they watch this material I don't think terrestial tv is the right platform on which to broadcast it. My concerns are that this material is too freely available to the Under 18 age group. I don't think that Parental Control Pin Numbers are a viable option of control either. Surely this material should be available by registration only so that the viewer has to prove he/she is over 18yrs?
From what I have seen from these adult/chat channels they really don't give out a good message to young people who are learning about sex and are impressionable.
What do you think? Should they stay / go / have more restrictions to programme content?

Yes I think it is quite shocking that this is part of the basic television package available to all and the only way to get rid of it is to know how to 'delete' the channel. I should imagine a lot of older people find it quite shocking and it is very inappropriate for an impressionable younger audience. TV can be very influential and it is difficult to remember sometimes that just because something is on tv it isnt 'real' or desirable. These channels broadcast things which I would rather not see and indeed had not seen previously. I have deleted the channels but I know other houses where they are still there where my son goes to stay. I know they are on late at night but even small children will sometimes be up late and be aware of an adult flicking through the channels. Yes I agree I think the content should be restricted something which has to be specifically subscribed to.

I have virgin media. The channels are deleted but the band at the bottom of the screen remains. If we are flicking through channels they are between the childrens channels and the sport channel. having young boys in the house, I phoned virgin media and asked for them to be removed. I was told this was impossible unless I also gave up my ondemand service (a necessity for rainy days). It wouldn'y even mean a rebate on my bill.

I agree with you totally and am looking into alternative media services.

our virgin channels have them right near the kids channels. the kids always press the up/down buttons on the box and end up with some bikini clad woman with huge melons on the screen :(

Why on earth do they put the porn next to the children's channels?

Seems bizarre TBH.

And yes they should be "opt-in" I mean it's hardly going to be difficult for them to run it that way.

The reason they don't run it as an opt in rather than an opt out, is because they must count on picking up a lot of drunk fools swtiching on and paying money, whereas if it wasn't there and was a bit more effort to sign up to, they wouldn't.

It's fucking offensive, I don't want even the porny pictures beamed into my living room.
