I have a £25 amazon voucher that I'm hoping I can spend at the F-Word. I have 'Reclaiming the F-Word', 'Living Dolls', and 'The Equality Illusion' - what would you buy next?

Have you read Backlash? Susan Faludi. A bit older but still relevant.

Nope - seriously, those are the only feminist books I've read/got! I am a fledgeling feminist (in case you hadn't noticed that from my prolific posting lately Grin).

Will look up Backlash, thank you.

2nd the recommendation for Backlash. She writes about stuff that happened 20/30 years ago but it has opened my eyes so much to identical tactics that are being used today against women.

Ok, I now have Backlash in my basket. Would anyone recommend GrassRoots?

Yes, v. v. expensive! Might wait for that one until I next have gift vouchers!

So, so far I have 'delusions of gender' and £19 more to spend.

As I'm getting all activisty, I'm wondering about the GrassRoots one, but is it American? How to American feminism books translate to the UK?

Need some more suggestions!

Are you just looking for non fiction? I like The Women's Room by Marilyn French (although I think some on here aren't so keen).

I'm not so keen on US stuff myself.

I liked One Dimensional Woman by Nina Power.

And I'd like this but don't have it

Well, I've got £25 to spend at Amazon and £55 to spend in Waterstones, which I have been ordered to take as long spending as possible - a long afternoon without the children, a coffee, more browsing etc. I know that our local Waterstones doesn't sell much feminist non-fiction, but that's where I got my three books so far from. If there's a good list of feminist fiction anywhere (or anyone can recommend any), I'll go and look some out at Waterstones when I go.

Otherwise, I want to spend my Amazon money on non-fiction I think!

Thanks for the ideas - lookign them up now

Browse the Margaret Atwood in Waterstones then.

That isn't meant to be as abrupt as that sounds btw Smile

Ok, thanks! Isn't Jeannette Winterton a good feminist author too? Anyone else?

I reread Oranges are not the Only Fruit recently. Which I enjoyed as a teen. Don't know much about here though.

Nawal El-Saadawi is an Egyptian feminist (very topical Grin) who writes fiction too.

Ok, about to click order soon - I've got Delusions of Gender and Women Revolution. Now I have to choose:

Backlash is slightly more expensive than...
The Beauty Myth

Which is best, do you think?
