AIBU to shout at the radio when that footballing dinasaur talked about his "apology"

I'm not even sure which of the two it was. but he seemed to think that apologising to the referee and telling the world he had done so would make it all ok. and some other idiot was saying how it probably was, indeed, all a joke, and no offence was meant.

And this was pretty much unchallenged by the presenter. who asked something pathetic like could it indeed be a case of pc gone mad.

I think a few people (including some journalists) need to exchange the word "women" with the words "black" or "Asian" and then maybe they'd start to understand...

Angry Angry Angry

I agree hatwoman.

You don't just come out with shite like they did as a 'joke' - it demonstrates deep seated misogyny. I'm delighted Gray was sacked and the other one has 'resigned' (before he was pushed?)

Disgusting idiots. Good riddance. Hopefully it'll be a warning to all the other sexist pigs working in similar fields to watch their dirty mouths.

It was Keys. To be fair he did at least admit that what they said was wrong (Gray merely said he was sorry people were offended Hmm)

But "dark forces"???? Grow up, mate.

Even Kelvin McKenzie thinks they are toerags & you don't get much lower than that

But as someone else on another thread said, it wasn't a joke.

It wasn't said in a jokey way, it was said in a resentful, hostile way. That's not how jokes are told.

Tehy're all a bunch of pricks.

I would love to have a breakdown of male and female referee wrong calls.

I would lay money on women getting the calls right more often, simply because they have to be about six times as good as a man, to be allowed to do the job for less pay.

Yes when Kelvin McKenzie thinks you're out of order, you know you have crossed a line...

I know he admitted it was wrong - but the fact that he thought his apology to the individual woman involved and her acceptance of it was enough to move ahead indicates to me, that he doesn't get why it was wrong. It's not just one person he offended it's half the blimmin population!

Agree he is a knobhead - but can't help feeling a little bit uncomfortable about his sacking in light of the legal action he's taking against TNOTW. Rupert Murdoch doesn't strike me as someone who really gives a shit about equality...

It is (fairly) reliably reported today that studio staff loathe & despise these 2 with a passion (someone was once made to kneel down & clean chewing gum off Gray's shoe???) so maybe the conspiracy theorists re the leaking of clips being related to the NOTW phone tapping thing are wide of the mark too - it was just revenge Grin

Not sure if it's a conspiracy theory - but it what you've said is true then who the hell cares! Shock

KMc implied that the new broom just wanted to sweep deadwood away.

And Ugly Andy gave him the opportunity he needed

\link{http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jan/26/andy-gray-richard-keys-sixist\this is interesting} - shame the women didn't feel they could be named though

some good comments below

BUT

scroll down \link{http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1350449/Richard-Keys-resigns-dark-forces-stitched-Andy-Gray-apologises.html\here} to the picture of Charlotte Jackson in bikini & stilettos - I have no idea when the picture dates from, ie whether before or after she became a Sky sports presenter, but hey, double standards, anybody? She is presented as a sex object here Hmm

HerBeX · 26/01/2011 21:41

What do you mean, double standards?

Do you think that if she appeared in a bikini once, that precludes her from ever being taken seriously as a professional again?

David Beckham has appeared in ads for Police and other brands, where he has bared his torso and flexed his pecs.

Does that mean he should expect to be sexually harrassed by his colleagues for the rest of his life?

That photo is from the Mail - do they ever not present young women as sex objects? Hmm

You watch, Andy will be working for them as a sports correspondent soon.

Andy Gray & Richard Keys haven't appeared in ads like that though (thank god) Grin

Apparently she got the Sky sports job following a series of appearances as a glamour model; having got the job she stopped doing it.

"she was happy to use sexy photoshoots as a ?launch pad? for her television career.
Miss Jackson, a fanatical Liverpool fan despite being brought up in leafy Wickham, Hampshire, featured in a series of downmarket magazine titles.
The decision made sense. The more she posed in bikinis, the greater her popularity among football?s male fanbase.
?Friends have often ribbed me about being photographed wearing next to nothing for lads? magazines, but I am proud of my body,? she has said, defending the risqué shoots.
The boxing fan ? who also played tennis and lacrosse at county level ? saw her career stutter when Setanta collapsed in the UK in 2009, but she was hired by Sky Sports News later that year.
As her roles began to increase ? she hosted the prestigious 2009 FIFA World Player Of The Year Awards Ceremony in Switzerland ? she gave up modelling.
A source said: ?She decided she didn?t want to model any more. When Charlotte started modelling, it was very much there as a launch pad to becoming a major sports presenter.
?It was all about building this image as a ?sexy sports presenter?. And when that was accomplished, and she?d got to Sky, there was no need to model any more.?"

LOL can you imagine anyone paying those 2 to take their clothes off?

That says it all doesn't it - she had to build up a base of acceptance by taking her clothes off, before she was allowed to get a real job.

Whereas Beckham did his real job then started taking his clothes off for money.

Report
Ponders · 26/01/2011 22:08

exactly. she is obviously an intelligent, talented & sporty girl but apparently she couldn't get that job without taking her clothes off Hmm

And she'll be out on her ear when she's forty
