Has anyone read this, and what did you think? I think I first read it pre-dc, and it didn't have quite the same impact as it did just recently, second time around, post dc!

Is this the book about the mother inlaw?! If it's the right one I loved it! Didn't realise at the time PG more famous for historical novels

Yes its the book about the mother-in-law, and yes I did like it, especially 2nd time around! MamaG, I think you'll probably have more luck getting it on Amazon as, if I remember correctly, its quite a few years old now and not sure if it would still be stocked in bookshops.

I read this, as a library book.
Yes, it says a lot about MIL and DIL relations.
Although I must admit I did wonder why the wife bothered competing for the affection of such a crappy bloke, she'd have been better off with someone else frankly.
And also, why did she end up looking after her FIL like she was a skivvy?
I think it is a very powerful story as the DIL turns into her MIL whom she despised, and I think the implication is she will do the same to her son and HIS wife when the time comes.

Says a lot about female domestic power struggles and how bad relationships perpetuate themselves, and how men just don't operate on that level at all but are the ultimate winners as women compete to "serve" them and make them happy at whatever cost to themselves.

My godmother sent me this when ds was born. I devoured it. For those of us with a certain type of mother-in-law it is essential post-natal reading.
