..for some reason, the synopsis only appears on the paperback version site (which will obviously be published even later)..

I am so proud of him! We're still pinching ourselves on a daily basis

..that's it..

Synopsis
The Adamantine Palace lies at the centre of an empire that grew out of ashes. Once dragons ruled the world and man was little more than prey. Then a way of subduing the dragons alchemicly was discovered and now the dragons are bred to be little more than mounts for knights and highly valued tokens in the diplomatic power-players that underpin the rule of the competing aristocratic houses. The Empire has grown fat. And now one man wants it for himself. A man prepared to poison the king just as he has poisoned his own father. A man prepared to murder his lover and bed her daughter. A man fit to be king? But uknown to him there are flames on the way. A single dragon has gone missing. And even one dragon on the loose, unsubdued, returned to its full intelligence, its full fury, could spell disaster for the Empire. But because of the actions of one unscrupulous mercenary the rivals for the throne could soon be facing hundreds of dragons ...Stephen Deas has written a fast moving and action-fuelled fantasy laced with irony, a razor sharp way with characters, dialogue to die for and dragons to die by.

michaelad - great stuff. As one writer to another, please say congrats to Stephen from me! I know how hard it is...not just to get this far, but from here on... (Does he have an agent?)

michaelad · 06/05/2008 19:45

ruby..famous..lol, far from it!

unquietdad, thank you. Yes, he does have an agent. How about you? Have you had lots published?

Congratulations to your dh. I hope it does really well and hits those bestseller lists!

It's so much fun seeing all that hard work come to fruition. I received the cover design for my first book today but it's non-fiction and I do think it's considerably harder to get fiction published so a massive achievement for him.

Keep us posted on progress.

MNanonymous, how did receiving that cover design feel? I just can't wait to set eyes on what will eventually be dh's cover.. and I'll probably end up crying like a baby when we get the proof copy

Well done to him. It's a great moment--makes up for all the hard times authors have on the road to publication.

Michaela, seeing the cover was indeed exciting. I received the proofs this week which was less so given I have to review them all in an alarmingly short space of time!

I think I'll get more excited when I see it in a bookshop for the first time!

Oh yay!!!

I can't justify hardback prices (and I get all cross with hardbacks in general), but I will be buying it in paperback - most likely for DH's birthday (August... is that too hopeful?)

Report
UnquietDad · 06/05/2008 22:46

Hardbacks are a pain in the arse. They over-price them and then use that as an excuse to beat us with ("poor sales") and drop us!

they do say that hb is on the way out, but i don't think it will happen for a while. the supermarkets are stocking fewer and fewer, mind you, and they have such huge commercial clout!
