In June of this year, I'm finally fulfilling a long-held (15+ years..) wish to go to Florence.

I fully intend to do a spot of literary tourism while I'm out there (very fast because we only have 5 days), and am interested in recommendations of must-read books set in, about, inspired by or in any other way connected with Florence.

My list so far:

Dante (don't sneer, I did an Italian paper at university and still have the parallel translations)
Brownings Robert and Elizabeth Barrett
Michael Dibdin - A Rich Full Death
Ross King - Brunelleschi's Dome
Mary McCarthy - The Stones of Florence

I'm particularly keen to read a bit more fiction.

Any ideas? TIA...

A Florentine Death by Michele Giuttari - readable but slightly silly and overblown thriller set in and around Florence

If you get the chance to venture outside of Florence, Vinci is gorgeous as is Lucca. Don's miss the ampitheatre in Lucca. Just fab.
