I've just got into this. I'm enjoying it ... ok. But finding the whole 'narrator with poor vocab' thing just not credible. I know, I know, he's a sitcom writer, but still ... we're reading his journal, and it's far too literary in style to be believably by someone who doesn't know a word like 'angst'.

I found this on my shelves again just the other night (busy cataloguing books to feed my newly-discovered passion for LibraryThing). I wouldn't rate it as my favourite David Lodge, tbh...

I'm going to a reading he's doing next month so probably ought to re-acquaint myself a bit!

I haven't read that much of him, I read one about being a uni professor, ages ago, that was a lot more believable and engaging, I think.
