Place of the Fallen Leaves by Tim Pierce, worth the struggle?

Having made my way through several of the books in AF being queried as worth plodding on with, erm is this worth gritting my teeth through?

I am less than a third of my way through and it just seems to be fairly dull narrative, does anything interesting happen?
