I'm a bit of a Billy no Mates locally, so I've bit the bullet and joined a book club. I know 2 of the 8 members slightly (ie to say hello to)

Would like to meet some like-minded friends, bit like people on here! But have heard so many stories about the book clubs being wine soaked bitch fests (more than happy for wine and chat about things other than books - I'm not after anything very literary!)

Bit nervous (and might wimp out yet), share your stories with me - good and bad.

Mine was lovely. I left because most of the books chosen were not to my taste and TBH it became a bit of a drag going. However, the members were non-bitchy and it was a nice way to meet some new people at a time when I needed to do that.

Mine is really good - held in the local independent book shop in our village. Through it I've got to know a lot of people I wouldn't otherwise have come across. And as well as talking about books they also tend to be interested in films, theatre and good TV so we usually stay on after the book group and have a chat. There's a cafe too so it's an all-round nice experience once a month. Go for it Smile

Mine is great, been going few years, we take turns to choose a book then host the meeting with wine and crisps. Various people have joined and come and gone, but we've always made them welcome, and I've read and enjoyed books I would never have considered before.

We are really bad! We used to drink wine but now it is tea! We often forget to discuss the book. Most groups I think read the same book but we tend to swap about. We have a book for January, one for Feb and so on but we don't always get them at the same time!

Mine is lovely -it's my favourite night out. We are a mixed sex group with a range of ages. Our group dynamic has changed a little over the years with 2 or 3 people dropping out and new people joining us. We all get along very well and it's not bitchy, but we are like-minded and enjoy putting the world to rights.

Give it a whirl and hopefully it will be a great way to form some solid friendships.
