Help me to WANT to read again!

Posted in chat before realising that there's a whole section of mumsnet for this!

I need a book/author recommendation to help give me the push I need to want to pick up a book again. I've gone from spending hours just reading and looking forward to it to reading absolutely nothing over the past 5-10 years Blush

I no longer have hours a day to be sat reading but I spend enough time on mn that I could be using better!

I enjoy true life, phsycological thrillers and mysteries. I'm not keen on romance or horror.

Can anyone recommend anything as I am completely out of touch?

Jeffrey Deaver is my go to my psych thrillers. Always have a twist.
I was given a kindle for my 40th and I read much more now. I download lots of free books and don't feel guilty if they don't grab me. When I find one I really like I splash out 99p on another title from the same author.

I like a proper, paper book rather than digital but that's a very good idea! I'll have a peak at any suggestions and if I like it buy a copy!
Thank you Flowers

If you want a good thriller I can recommend Mark Edwards and Rachel Abbot all of theirs I've read have been really good. One I particularly enjoyed was The Magpies by Mark Edwards.

I haven't got any specific recommendations for books, but I would suggest that you start by giving yourself permission to dip in and out of books at your leisure. Pop into bookstores, treat yourself to anything that catches your eye in the charity shop. Don't feel you have to read the whole thing, just read a page or a chapter. You'll find something you love this way. It's a bit like getting back into running marathons! You have to retrain your concentration level a little.

Ps- op... Reading is like a daily meditation. You'll feel infinitely better when you weave it back into your worldSmile

Do you commute daily or go anywhere regularly where you have wait around? Just always have a book with you and it'll become a habit.

I don't commute (live close to work) and have no time during the day, any reading would be done evenings and night time. Hopefully once I get started it'll be a pleasure and a bit of relaxing time, it's just the getting started bit!

Ooooh I'm currently trying to get back into reading too. I used to devour books but due to ill health this year I lost my ability to concentrate on books. I'm recovered now but need to get back into reading. I've got a few waiting on my kindle but always interested in other people's recommendations.

John Le carre was the best thing to get back to reading after kids for me. The plots are great and the characters are beautifully drawn. Joy.
