This has probably been mentioned numerous times before, but books are so lovely, to kids, to us -

I love being able to turn off the tv and read to the kids, and when their asleep pick up a book and in quiet read a brilliant story from pages I can turn - even the feel of a book I love - marking a page, everything!

How awful it would be to put this all online, or am I wrong?

That made me laugh Phil. I love books too and I love tv. I have a kindle but just can't 'get' it. It doesn't smell and feel like a book.

People hated cars when they first saw then, probably there were people that hated wheels. Things change. Meh.

I bought my DD a kindle couple of years ago because she loves reading but barely uses it as she prefers real books, trouble is they have to be brand new! My my mums loves going into charity shops to get books and has declined many offers for kindle.

I've got a Kindle but still prefer a proper book, likewise I prefer reading an actual newspaper. However, the Kindle is useful when travelling abroad otherwise my entire suitcase would be full of books and Ryanair are just so fussy about luggage allowance!

Books are better, easier to pass on to friends and there's much more satisfaction launching a crap novel into the Mediterranean than merely pressing delete.

No.youre over sentimentalising a physical object.the act of reading is great, whatever the media
There no proper way to read, and books arent only way to enjoy reading
There is room enough for electronic and print book

scott of course there is room for reading anything in any format, if that's your choice -

Personally, the whole experience of reading and enjoying an actual 'book' is far better than getting off a kindle etc....

It's a sad day when we couldn't just turn off all the electrical shit and enjoy something that actually made us think and turn a page for ourselves......

I don't need to think to turn a page , maybe all that reading has dulled you a little. Try watching more TV.

Yes, it's hardly "what is the world coming to?" that some people like the convenience and immediacy of e-books, some people like the feel and sound of paper books and some like both. Books are about ideas, and ideas exist outside paper and devices.

If your preference for paper books, that's fine.

We love books too. We have a house full and so far none of our 4 kids has a kindle and I don't plan on buying one anytime soon. I agree it's not just reading it's the feel and smell, plus I don't think you could get the same enjoyment with a kindle as you can with a 3 year old on your knee with a big book to share.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why people might want electronic books but we'll be keeping our books as long as possible.

Books are far more than reading the written word of any format available -

I love the feel, the smell, being able to mark and turn everything off in the house and just read that book - feeling when your halfway through a book, knowing your near the end - being able to pick up and reading from pages - all just a lovely, books are special

After spending the majority of my day on the laptop, there is nothing like turning it all off and enjoying reading a fantastic book!!!!

There's a major issue around monopoly as regards on-line books, given that, for most people, "on-line" actually means Kindle, which means Amazon.

Personally, I mourn the death of the NBA. I rather respect the French for keeping all of those protective measures for their book industry.

scott pompous, no, just personally think reading from books totally different to reading electronically - have always read from books and loved, always read to my children, and they read and enjoy books too -

Personal choice maybe, Just love being able to turn off everything and read from books -

My children love too - not knocking anyone for doing different, just love books!

Sorry

I'm nit into sniffing or stroking books so prefer my kindle. Grin

I read more now I have it. And it's all about the story and pictures in my head, not how those words are presented.

I still buy books for my DC as they prefer a real paper book.
