Explaining the whole thing? Hmm

Nicholas and Alexandra By Robert Massie here Is still one of the best books written about the last Tsar and his family. Very very readable and naturally deals with the causes of the Revolution along the way.

A people's tradgedy by Orlando figues, a tome but reads like a novel, best history book I've read, so insightful

Thanks Brices, I saw A People's Tragedy on Amazon, good to have a recommendation. I've requested both books from the library. History lesson starts soon!

Sheila Ftizpatrick 'The Russian Revolution'. Not too big, she writes brilliantly and is generally quite brilliant.
She has also written some great books on Stalinism.

Orlando Figes' books are fab and very accessible and full of anecdotal evidence that make a great read. I have met him a number of times and been taught by him.

Emma Goldman is terrific. She wrote about her disillusionment in Russia in 1923. Very readable.

I hate his writing. Kind of chick lit. Stupid one about some girl who became a communist
