Anyone recommend a crime/thriller for my poorly dad?

My dad fell off the roof last week, and is laid up with a broken shoulder. Thought I'd get him a good read in an attempt to keep him still so he doesn't hurt himself when he's supposed to be mending! He likes Gerald Seymour, Ian Rankin that kind of thing - anyone got any suggestions for a good one to get him? Thanks!

The Blackhouse by Peter May is brilliant. First of a trilogy so if he enjoys it you have further presents sorted! Set in the Hebrides.

Also the first in Ann Cleeves' series of crime novels set in Shetland, Raven Black, is very good.

Hope your dad gets better soon Smile

Not a crime book as such but a superb thriller is The Constant Gardener by john Le Carre.

Jo Nesbo books are pretty good - well plotted and written - though a little gory.

I came on to say the Blackhouse trilogy too. And a series by Caro Ramsay set in Glasgow but I can't remember the name of the first one.

Ooh thanks folks I'm off to Amazon to have a look now! He's read the blackhouse ones already, as have I - they were an excellent read though!

Stuart MacBride is also very good and similar to Ian Rankin.

If he likes Rankin, there is a new Rebus book just out: Secrets of the Shadow Bible.

Early Michael Connelly - brilliant e.g. Angels Flight, Trunk Music,
Concrete Blonde - very often available in charity shops too.
DH reads them over and over . . Enjoy and hope your dad
recovers soon.
