I am on my second attempt, but christ its slow and i can't really seem to keep track of when he is talking about. I've heard good reviews though and i don't really have much else on my kindle just now - should i persevere? I really dont like giving up, but i will if a better offer comes along.

I didn't get very far with it. Love the shard lake stuff though, so tempted to try again.

I always fine it best to try with a difficult book when I've got nothing else to read. Then I have to persevere!

I'd keep going,we did it for book group a couple of years ago and most of us really enjoyed it.

Might give it another go but not in any hurry tbh

I was disappointed, I stuck it out but it was all a bit cliche tbh.

I'm currently about a third of the way through and struggling a bit but I want to read it all.

I keep getting confused about which side is which Blush.

OK I'm going to differ here and say I really enjoyed it. Grasped the basics of the Spanish civil war for the first time when I read WIM. IMO a thousand times better than The Return by Victoria Hislop which covered the same time period.

I really liked it, could really relate to Barbara. interesting.

Another yes vote as I loved it too and have read it twice! However, I have never been able to get into the Shardlake series, despite numerous attempts as I liked WIM so much. Seems to me that you either like one or the other.

Agree with Highlandcoo's comments about The Return - I don't think VH has ever managed to write another one as good as The Island.

Another Spanish Civil War themed yarn is Original Sin by Marius Gabriel. Great saga.

I'm trying again with this and have gone from 31% to 56% on my kindle and am getting more into it. Went and bought a paperwhite today so have spent a bit too much time setting up my new kindle, but am going to read some more this evening.

LEMisafucker · 03/11/2013 20:25

ooh, tell me about the paperwhite, i have a normal kindle touch but i really want a paperwhite, can't justify the spend though so dp will just have to put up with the light on im sort of getting into it, only on about 30% though

LEM, I posted about my good paperwhite deal at Argos here, but you'll have to be quick. Also, it looks like they are selling both versions, so make sure you get the new one, if that's what you want. I'm reading it in bed right now but mumsnetting at the same time and it works a treat in the dark.

I will probably keep my old kindle keyboard because its not in great condition (there's a couple of small marks on the screen that you can hardly see and a scratch on an edge where I dropped it as well as the sand under the screen protector that I mentioned in my other thread) to use on holidays, but you could probably get a decent price on ebay for your old one, so with the Argos vouchers, I think its a good deal.

Update - I finished WIM last night and I'm really glad I stuck with it.

I read it on my kindle and really got into it about 40% of the way through and by 70% I was enjoying it so much I never wanted it to end IYSWIM, but at the same time was desperate to see how it all turned out.
