I'm just over halfway through Dominion and loving it. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but am enjoying it so much I almost don't want to read it iyswim as then I will have finished it.

I felt the same when I read 'the girl with the dragon tattoo'

I used to race home after drop off to read it, then was gutted when it finished.

The next two books were not as good IMO.

Is Dominion CJ Sansom? I have just finished Dark Fire in his Shardlake series which was really enjoyable too.

Yes Dominion is C J Sansom. I've read Dissolution by him and am going to read the rest of the Shardlake ones too.

I Capture the Castle. I can't believe it's taken me this long to read it. I should have read it as a teenager.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
A friend loaned me the book, and I loved it. I recommended it to my book group as our next read, and everyone loved it (unheard of for us)

I really like the Shardlake books. Dominion began well but fizzled off, imho.

I enjoyed King's Doctor Sleep, most recently.

Life After Life by Kate Atkinson is my favourite this year.

Perfect - it was gentle, very sad if not tragic and very evocative of the 1970s....for me a 'perfect' combination

Me Before You by JOJo Moyes. I don't usually like sappy heart string-pulling stuff but this was very good and different from the rest.

I have just finished Ring of Bright Water by Gavin Maxwell. Incredibly well-written, but also evocative and funny and immensely sad too. Really loved it.

Second vote for The Night Circus. Also loved The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Frye.

I've just finished Life, Death and Vanilla Slices by Jenny Eclair. A melancholy read, but great storytelling. Didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did (is that damning with faint praise?).
