Autobiography: A need to read!

Hi everyone!

Not to be too smug, but im off to Dubai on a lovely winter hol in a couple of weeks and have searched and searched for a decent few books to take with me to no avail!!

My problem is that i only really like reading things that are written in first person, so autobiograaphies are my main choice!

Havent read one since last year so i've no idea whats around and whats any good- Anyone got any recommendations?

Have you ever read anything about the Mitfords? They are a fascinating family, and there are plenty of books around about them?

Mitfords are fascinating. So agree with that.

Agree with other posters about Mitford Sister books being a good read.

I also enjoyed Rob Lowes autobiography. John Taylor's is pretty good as well.

Andre Agassi's autobiography Open is fab. I also really enjoyed John McEnroe's (Serious) but that dates me a bit these days!

Am not a massive tennis fan btw but do like sports autobiographies.

J G Ballard's autobiography "Miracles Of Life" is brilliant.

Paul O'Grady has written 3 volumes I think, all really good. Can second Andre Agassi's - it is fascinating. Ruby Wax too. And David Niven's books are still funny.

Off to try some Mitford books next...

I enjoyed Frank Skinner's autobiography, even though I'm not that keen on him as a comedian. Michael J Fox's was also surprisingly good (called Lucky Man).

Not quite an autobiography but written in the first person about his work in criminology - Paul Britton's The Jigsaw Man is an interesting read.

A Million Little Pieces by James Frey is brilliant.

I also really enjoyed The Heart Shaped Bullet by Kathryn Flett, about her divorce.

How about travel writing in the first person? I love Bill Bryson, Paul Theroux and Sarah Moss (Strangers in Iceland).

I've just started reading The Secret Life Of Bletchley Park. Whilst it's not an autobiography, it's still an interesting read about that period of time in British history.
Other than that, I've enjoyed Nelson Mandela's autobiography, "Long Walk To Freedom". The others I've enjoyed have already been mentioned
