have e reader, now own embarrassingly large well written filth collection is it just me?l

I've always read a lot, to make way for kids stuff dh got me a reader and charity shopped most of my books. When covers were on display I mainly read terry pratchett, tom Holt, jasper fforde, Jane Austen etc. I still do, but as I have everything they've written I got bored...

Since getting my e reader I have all Georgette heyer, Liz Carlyle, Jr ward, kresley Cole, Eloisa James, julia london, etc. Also all the dragon actually series and various others. Basically well written filth, fantasy filth and regency romance. No idea how I got here from satire and Tolkien.

I'm not sure if the deterioration is down to the fact that I read trying to stay awake through night feeds, or just because nobody can judge the books they can't see.

Please help - at least let me know I'm not alone, oh and recommend more books please.

My previous tactic of sorting by price for free and reviews over three stars and downloading without looking has resulted in content I wish I could scrub from my mind and my archive. And late night typing errors. Do not type storming her castle when you want storming the castle. Ick.

I've got quite a bit of filth on mine. Some intentional, some completely accidental downloads.

I read a lot of paranormal stuff which seems to attract a bit of crossover with filth, I don't always realise it's filthy when I download it, then I get recommendations on Amazon based on this filth that I haven't actually read and have deleted as soon as I realise it's not what I expected.

Schooldidi that happens a lot. I like medieval fantasy as well as Anne maccaffrey type dragon stuff, hence got dragon actually recommended, filthy but funny and good plots. After reading all the heyers I got recommended eloisa James and the recommendations got progressively dodgier from there. That and downloading all the free stuff in fiction without scanning titles or blurbs mean I have some truly awful tat. Is there any way to permanently delete things from kindle archive?

No flith (though only cos it wouldn't interest me), loads of the worst type of medieval murder mysteries you can imagine. I read some before e-reader but was always embarassed to see them accumulating amidst the erudition of my youth. Now I buy with abandon.

Me too. I do have more worthy stuff on my kindle (Hilary Mantel, Sebastian Faulks, some classics, some modern literary stuff. But I have to confess to buying some filth too. Not all unintentionally.

And I have just discovered (thank you mumsnet adult fiction page) J R Ward and seem to have become obsessed with vampires so I've read all except the last two and am now rationing myself!

I don't feel bad though, reading should be about what you like, not what other people think you should like. If kindles free us up to read more of what we enjoy, that must be a good thing. I also think that I still lean towards buying the paper book if I think it is a real classic that I want to see on my bookshelf and might want my daughter to see and read in the future. I haven't kept all of my paper books but I do keep the best ones. I'm more inclined to use kindle for the trashy beach type reading so I guess this influences what is on there.

You can permanently delete things from your kindle. You have to log into the manage your kindle site page.

In terms of other recommendations, well I've read all the George RR Martin Ice and Fire books and really loved them. They are fantasy but not filth (not mainly anyway!) I also like Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Kate Atkinson, and recently loved the Book Thief.

My sister asked to borrow my ereader and I had an attack of morals and went through deleting all of the filthy books on it- although I left all of the ML Briers vampire ones because they actually have a story and are mostly funny so I told myself they didn't count- let's just say I shouldn't have bothered as she read all the one's I left and enjoyed them and it came back to me with more filth than I had deleted.

I was reading a ehm 'racy' novel on my ereader in the doctors waiting room last week. Blood pressure taken and was 150/100. Never had high blood pressure before. Went back today for a re-take and stuck to Women's Weekly. Totally normal. Won't be doing that again before an appt.

I've got such a stupid range of stuff on mine - ranges from An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding by Hume (10 pages read) to pretty much every Jilly Cooper ever published (all read).

I like fantasy and in particular urban fantasy. Anyone who reads this genre knows that there is are a huge number of Mary Sue & OMG Sexy Vampire novels for every well crafted, plot driven novel.

I like The Dresden Files, Ben Aaronovich, Benedict Jacka, The Iron Druid novels etc. BUT there are only so many of these and I read a lot. Oh and it's all so cheap! So umm, yes, there's the UF porn section & I can read it on business trips and no-one will know. I figure it's a bit like reading the Mail Online but with fewer negative consequences

I only got my kindle at Christmas. It's now chock-a-block full of filth. Mostly Drarry fan fic courtesy of the TSA threads on here and I'm another avid fan of J R Ward.

To be honest I would be slightly embarrased if anyone realised what was on it!

I have certainly expanded my range of reading since I got my Samsung Galaxy tab, I go down Amazons free books, Romance, Fantasy and Thrillers sections and I have had some fantastic books. I never throught I would enjoy some of the thrillers and when I go back to check up after I've read, and enjoyed, the book, which I got free, I often find they are £1.89 or so. I just read one called 'The Ice Diaries' set in 2018 and it really was great. I was previously reading a book every week or two, now that I carry the Galaxy in my handbag, I usually read a book every 4 - 5 days. I have the app on my phone and standing in queues or outside the school I take my phone out and read a few pages. It's great the way it syncs to last page read on any device. I've even been known to read the odd risque book, and without my 12 yr old daughter prying, I feel I can read guilt free.

My reading material has gone downhill shockingly since I got a kindle. The problem is there is so much free stuff! I find lots of it through ereaderiq.co.uk. I should stay off this site really because I have enough free stuff to literally last me for years but I still keep downloading. It also watches my wishlist for me so it will email me if I title I actually want to read is free or reduces in price. Often these free or cheaper days can be a single day so it's worth doing.

For the person that asked, there IS a way to permanently delete an item from your archived items. How you do this is go to amazon website, click on your account (under your name) and choose 'manage your kindle'. Find the book you want to delete in your list and click on the 'actions' dropdown on the same line as the book, and then you can delete it from your library. I have done this when something was a bit too much for my delicate sensibilities

Where do you get well-written filth? All the filth I have bought has been sadly disappointing.
I bought my Kindle to read Wolf Hall and frankly I'd rather do Thomas Cromwell than any of the heroes of my filth.

Another vote for filth on e readers and as a great way for passing the time on lonely business trips.

I'm not into the fantasy/sci fi stuff though, just regular contemporary "erotica" (smut). I've been reading LC Giroux and Bella Andre. I love Emma Holly's black lace stuff but it's pretty expensive even on iBooks/kindle.

Any other recommendations?

To be fair, much of the filth I have been reading is not well written

Of the stuff that is better, I have enjoyed things written by Noelle Adams, Monica DeVere and others. But really I prefer a story/romance with sex scenes to just the sex scenes.

If you are after a freebie this one isn't bad, but it might not be filthy enough for you, depends what you like.
