Who has written one? Is there a choice...? Suggestions please!

Am also interested in any fictional accounts of Israel/ Jerusalem.
Thanks.

There are quite a few. If you type names of the main people involved into Amazon you usually come up with at least a couple of options for each character.

All I can think of right now is The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ by Philip Pullman. Don't know if that's the sort of thing you're looking for though?

Quarantine is by Jim Crace. It's a pretty good read.

Not historical but leaning towards Science Fiction is Patrick Tilley's "Mission".

Has a corker of an ending. I finished it and was really "Oh...wow!"

King Jesus by Robert Graves. I haven't read it for years so don't know what my older self would say but my 20something self thought it was terrific.

Would also recommend Quarantine.

Anthony Burgess (author of A Clockwork Orange) wrote an excellent novel called Man of Nazareth.

It's based on his own screenplay for the TV miniseries Jesus of Nazareth; which you may recall had fairly developed characters and political issues.

And there's the novel of 'The Last Temptation of Christ'.

Martin Scorcese and Wilhelm Defoe got into a fair amount of controversy when they made the film version.
