Not that I am particularly high brow in my readig, it spans huge swathes of themes, writers and periods, however some is hard going and sometimes when I just want a break I read,

Catherine Cookson
Agatha Christie

but, mostly Catherine Cookson and I am building up a collection. I can't walk past a 20p Cookson and not buy it.

Who are the authors you read when you want to just have a quick read?

The Chalet School - I read them when I'm ill, stressed, tired.... and when I'm well and happy.

It's always reassuring to find out that Jo is still a real Chalet School girl.

I'm mad for Chalet School again at the moment. I also zoom through a Sweet Valley.

For something slightly more grown up, I re-read a Maeve Binchy.

Oh yes Sophie Kinsella. Although I'm going off Becky Bloomwood now, as she is starting to seem like a pathological liar, and now just relies on her husband's massive bank balance to bail her out of any problems she has...

Mine's Lyn Andrews. I love a good Liverpool wartime romance!

Julia Quinn-Her regency romances are so addictive, but are so unconvincing in their period detail (not to mention pre-marital sex!) and even the British detail is all wrong as Quinn is American and keeps mentioning city blocks and other things that make a huge CLUNK noise when I read, I still can't keep reading them. Quite enjoy Lauren Willig books - a bit silly, but entertaining.

Also find P.G Wodehouse, Patricia Cornwell and Sophie Kinsella nice light reading.

Anita Shreve or James Lee Burke, very different but they do the job for me.

I loved sweet valley books as a teenager!
My guilty pleasure book as an adult is Martina cole, most of her stories are similar, same kind of background story etc but once I start reading I can't put them down
