2013 WW thread #4 - Crunchies' Challenge

Here we are, new shiny thread to use for the Crunchies Challenge. Starting 1 September and running to Christmas Eve. Let's compare notes, support each other and restore the camaraderie we had earlier in the year when the weight was falling off us.

I haven't done a spreadsheet as success is personal and I'm on my iPad and it's way too complicated. The link to the old spreadsheet with the points for the Hairy Dieters (HD) book is on thread #3. I bought the new HD book last week and will attempt to point it when I get chance.

Good luck and here's to looking slim and slinky this Christmas Smile

Hi Crunchie, can I join you?

Have finally de-lurked to get a bit of support.
I started ww about three years ago - lost a stone and then gave up.
I'm now a stone heavier than when I started and bloody fed up of it. I'm quite motivated at the min, but I know I'll waver soon.

I've got a Christmas party on the 21st with people I haven't seen for a while and I'd like for them to be amazed!

Hello Crunchie, I have been lurking for a week or two trying to motivate myself to get back tracking. Your new thread and Christmas challenge has been the spur I needed!

I stepped on the scales 10 days ago and was not surprised in the slightest to see I weighed in at 10 stone. A summer of picnics, ice creams on the beach, evening in the sun with white wine and the inevitable nibbles has left its mark!

So, I am back with a mission to lose 10 pounds and get comfortably into my skinnies for the autumn.

I cut out rubbish and half heartedly pointed last week and lost 3 pounds! So, I am feeling motivated now to stick with this and get this weight off.

How did the half marathon go? I am toying with the idea of doing one next spring.

Looking forward to hearing how everyone is getting on

April hello and welcome. Grin

Chaos hello and welcome back Grin

Half marathon went ok, finished in 2.16 but legs still still. I have a sports massage booked for tomorrow which should help. I have the next one in less than 3 weeks so need to get out and run later in the week Shock I'm doing 3 in 50 days to raise money for Cancer Research so got to keep my focus.

However I'm in the middle of a two week holiday and constantly grazing on crap so need to get back on the wagon. On Monday when I'm back Wink

Here's to a successful few months. Thanks

Can I join? I've been lurking for a while. I signed up to ww online about 6 weeks ago and have lost about a stone. Need to lose at least another stone though. I've not been finding t too hard (though that may be because I'm taking the no points fruit pretty literally. Not sure how I'll cope as autumn sets in and the fruit isn't quite so yummy). I also got a fitbit so I'm trying to up my activity, but in a sustainable way, so that I can keep it all off.

Doh! Posted on the other thread then realised you had moved Smile
Well done on the running Crunchie.
Hoping this thread will keep me motivated to be slim and slinky for dh's 40th birthday in December. I first did ww before his 30th and wore a super slinky dress to his party. I'd love to get back into it.

Crunchie Thanks for the welcome - and I'm truly impressed by the half marathon. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Gnoomi Well done for losing a stone already - that's fantastic. I'd love to be saying the same in six weeks!

Hi to everyone else too.

Hi ladies can I join you please. I have been doing ww since last September and had lost about a stone and a half. I haven't weighed in for about four weeks and haven't pointed very much in that time. I will be going to wi to face the music tomorrow evening. I would love to lose another stone by Xmas. Hopefully talking to you all will help keep me motivated.

Hi Crunchie I'm not sure it will be a great day as I'm going to wi for the first time in a month Blush but at least it will be a fresh start Smile I will be back later to report how bad it was.

Gnoomi a stone in 6 weeks is fantastic - well done!!

I've been really pleased - but I did give up bfing about a month ago, and I think I've been one if those people who drop some weight when they stop, so it's cheating a bit! But it's made me really positive about ww and is helping me believe I can do this!

I'll report the question I put in the wrong (old forum)
I'm 11 stone 6 and want to get to 10 st 7. I have 26PP per day plus 49 extra points. I have twin babies so can only get to the gym once weekly to earn roughly 5 extra exercise points.
I tend to use ALL my points allowance and weight loss is sloooow. Should I just carry on doing what I'm doing? Does weight shift even if you use the whole points allowance (including all the extras)
Also.... What happens when you want to maintain your weight? I have a PP calculator, but not sure what to programme in at that stage. Is it still a points allowance of some sort?
cheers

AddictedtoCrunchies · 27/08/2013 22:01

I'm no expert but the obvious way of exercising would be to stick the babies in the buggy and walk. And walk. Don't count the extra points but just aim to get out every day and increase the time/distance.

When you maintain you need to increase your pp by a couple a week until you find the optimum amount to keep you roughly the same. Your weight will fluctuate anyway.

If I was you (and I'm not and know nothing about you so feel free to discount this advice) I would stick to your 26, allow yourself a certain number of your weeklies (aka winelies) whether that's some or all, and increase your exercise. If you can only get to the gym once a week then make the most of that but as I said above, you can walk. If you're on mat leave then you've got more time. If you're at work then use your lunch hour. You could look at the couch to 5k programme too as I'm a great advocate of running too.

Good luck Smile

Granted the buggy pushing is a good idea. The problem is that I can't 'survive' without the extra points. I'm only on 26 daily to start with and am getting 2-3 hrs sleep most nights. By using the extra 7 PP per day (on average) I'm managing to stick to the diet, but am left wondering if it won't work.
I've gone from 11 stone 10 to 11 stone3 and now rising again to 11 stone 5

I have just worked out that it is 17 weeks until Christmas. I am going to try to lose a stone by then. What are everybody elses targets?

Report
AddictedtoCrunchies · 28/08/2013 09:18

Ah I see. I remember that bone-numbing tiredness so I'm not surprised you're struggling. Do you have access to the website through e-Source or are you an online member? I wonder whether the Filling and Healthy option might work better for you?

It's a list of foods you can eat without counting points; you just eat until you're satisfied. You also get your 49 for extras (wine, sauces, spreads etc). The list is mainly fruit, veg, meat, fish, wholewheat pasta, Brown rice, oats and skimmed milk. Basically SW free list with a few extras. If you cook from scratch then it's ideal. Worth a look?

It's not so limiting. I use it when I'm training for a race as I need more carbs. Perhaps you could combine it with a daily walk and see if that helps?

Mercury, I've lost 20lbs so far although this holiday will probably change that and I want to lose another 19lbs which will take me to 12 stone. That should see me comfortably in a size 14 (I'm 5'11"). If it's 17 weeks until Christmas, 19lbs plus my holiday gain should be feasible. Grin

I am 4 and a bit stone away from my 'healthy' weight (top end!)How did I let that happen?! Feel ashamed.

I'd quite like to lose 2lb a week until Christmas so 34lb. Is that doable or am I better aiming lower and possibly beating my target?

Report
AddictedtoCrunchies · 28/08/2013 11:13

April I guess it depends whether you are in the zone? 2lb a week is doable but it doesn't allow much leeway and, if it goes wrong one week, you may become disheartened. What about aiming for 17lbs in 17 weeks? Then if it's more you'll be happy?
