2013 Weight Watchers Thread #3(927 Posts)
Right thought I should put up a new thread as we were getting close to filling up the old one!
Useful Notes and Links:
HD = Hairy Dieter's Recipe Book. Circa £7.00 on Amazon and full of yummy low WW point recipes
We share our yummy low point recipes on this thread
We track our losses weekly on this online spread sheet
The spread sheet also has a tab containing all the WW points for every single recipe in the HD book, courtesy of the lovely OhTheConfusion (for working them out) and AddictedtoCrunchies (for having the foresight to paste them in the spread sheet)
Here's to another thread of amazing losses ladies!!
also, sorry if it's a well covered topic but do you all eat some, all or none of the extra weekly points and what are your views please?
Hi there. I've just joined ww to lose the weight I gained on holiday in the summer!!! I have the hairy dieters book so that spread sheet is fantastic
Congrats! I do Weight Watchers Online too. It is such great motivation!
EEk Just completed my first week of WW online (I don't go to meetings) & have lost 5 lbs! Yay!
Hi may I join too please. I went to WW today for the first time, I have been set 26 daily points, I want to lose 22 pounds. I don't get that fruit doesn't have any points what with all the sugar content, but we'll see I guess.
If you have any questions after the class just ask and I'm sure one of us will know the answer.
Thanks, that's really helpful. We will go to a class I think, nearest one starts Wednesday. Looking forward to getting back on the straight and narrow.
Well done for making the decision to change things and for supporting your daughter.
WW supports the weight loss theory of 'eat less, move more'. No food is banned and each has a value.
How you work them out depends on whether you go to a class or follow the plan online. I'm an online member so I have access to the website. Every week I plan my meals for the following week and order my shopping. Then each day I log my food onto the planner which works out the points value for me. But you'll find you start to know the points of regular foods after a while. You can also add any exercise you do which will give you extra points which you can eat if you want (I try not to as it's better for my weight loss).
In addition to your daily points allowance, you have a weekly allowance of 49 points to spend on
wine extras. Some people divide this and have an extra 7 a day, some use them for a night out and some for treats. I save mine for a Sunday.
If you choose to go to a class, I'm pretty sure you still .ate access to the website but you'll have a leader to explain things plus you get books and other leaflets. But it's twice the price as online. Just depends how disciplined you are as to whether you weight at home or in class.
I've done Slimming World as well as WW and find this one easier. But you have to want to do it. If you count points you should lose weight.
If you've never done it before I'd be inclined to find a class to start with as you'll get loads of support. The only support I get being an online member is from these threads (but they are good).
Hop over to the Crunchies Challenge thread and say hello. Lots of wise people over there.
Hope that helps
Hi, this is first ever mumsnet post. I am thinking of joining ww and wanted a bit of advice before going ahead. Over the last 2 years I have lost 8 stone, with a very low fat 1200 a day diet, weighing in with a nurse at my doctors surgery once a month. However, since December last year I changed jobs and stopped going to the gym and focusing on my diet etc. the weight has gradually been going back on and I weighed in this morning and have gained almost 3 of the 7.5 stone since December. I feel like a bloody idiot. I've tried going back to my previous diet and lose a few lbs but just cannot get back into it, so am looking at a new approach. Also my daughter who is 17 is overweight and looking to join too.
So, my question is, is the points thing easy to follow? I take it each food has a certain value. Are you given these or do you need to work it out yourself.
Thanks for any advice.
Hi peeps, day 3 of getting back on the pp, only used 3 weeklies up to now, a bit hungry today though so may need a few later, onwards and upwards xxx
I have been at the top end of my target for 3 years, now I would like to get to the bottom end, would love to lose another stone, need some different meal ideas, and abit of support from you lovely people who know how I feel
Bamboo and Lay - pop over to the new thread. Called Crunchies Challenge.
I generally use all my pp but I need them because of my exercise levels. One lad used hers on Dominoes pizza every week and she lost loads.. Can't remember who it was..
See you on the other side
Hi all, I'm new. Losing the baby weight. Currently 11 stone 3 and aiming for 10 stone 7.
My daily allowance is 26 and weekly 49. I used all bar one point last week, and that was with one good gym session.
Do most people use up ALL their points each week and still lose weight?
I'm in! Lost nearly a stone since 1 Aug, and want to lose at least 2 by the time I go on holiday at the beginning of November.
Hi Crunchie. How have you been? Is the running still going well.
I've been very controlled today food-wise, despite a very stressful day at work and have just turned down a treat with my cup of tea. <polishes halo>
Hi Neeko nice to see you.
Hello... I'm still in. Had a break from we since we went to Disneyworld but I've started back on it today. Done ok despite not counting as have only put on 4lb in 2 months but really want to lose a good 10lbs to 1 stone by Christmas.
Have been lurking throughout but ready to get back into it.
Hi queenie and welcome to our thread. It's been a bit sporadic recently as a lot of the originals have fallen away but I'm feeling inspired to restart my journey from next Monday when I get back from holiday.
I joined the first thread in January and since then have lost 20lbs however others have lost much more. I'm of the opinion this needs to be a way of life rather than a quick fix which is why I use the 'slow but sure' mantra. I want to get another 19lbs off overall and aim to shift at least half of that by Christmas to take me into a size 14 (I was a tight 18 when I started).
So my questions for the Crunchie Challenge are:
1. Who is here?
2. How much do you want to lose by Christmas?
I'm going to start a shiny new thread as this one's nearly full anyway and we'll go for it. 1 September to Christmas Eve.
Flatmouse? Poorpaws? Rightsaidthread? Fledtoscotland? Come on, let's do it.
Post if you're in..
Hello all, may I join you?
I've possibly lurked on a WW thread before but a while back now. I lost some initial weight with Cambridge diet, but now I've decided to continue with WW as I don't want to eat into (excuse the pun) the weight I have lost. If I don't do something it will creep back on. Still have the app on my phone & I'm allowed 40 dailies.
One question you ladies may be able to help me with is using the cculator to work out points. When you enter fat is it total fat or just saturated fat you enter? Same with carbs, do you enter all carbs or just carbs that sugar? Silly question I know but think I might severely cock up if I don't get that right!
Also thank you to the lovely person who has converted all of the HB recipes! Brilliant! That cookbook is on my shelf
catching dust about to be revisited!
Half marathon in two hours. Shitting myself as not ready.
<waves frantically> Hi everyone, just to let you know I'm still around. I've been busy but have still been reading your posts. Well done to all the losers.
I weighed in tonight and stayed the same so its ok. As long as I stay in the 9s I'm happy but at 9st 13.5 I'm on the very edge. Less food, more exercise I suppose but not tonight it's black hole Friday woohoo.
Sending very thin vibes and huge losses to all.
Tracksuit bottoms £22 fr two pairs from Yours.
Leggings £14 fr 2 pairs
trainers luckily i already had from a few years back still in good nick.
£30 fr sports bra.
good job im not on jobseekers because it wouldnt be doable.
Charity shops certainly dont stock things in every single size and they certainly dont stock sports bras.
I always knew there is a strong link between poverty and obesity but when you are buying this stuff the link becomes more stark than ever and it really makes you think.
Im ok ive budgeted fr it but its reinforced what i already knew That others arent so lucky.
ive been out power walking fr over an hour every day so the motivation is definately there. i STILL need a sports bra though A sports bra is certainly NOT secondary when you are a K CUP SIZE.
I agree the dieting industry has a lot to answer for but you can buy into the bits which are helpful to you without succumbing to any of the sales pitch.
If you have the will and are honest with yourself you don't need to go to classes. I've lost half my body weight and didn't go or buy any books or special foods etc. My weight does fluctuate but I've managed to lose weight and keep it down just doing WW online. The calculator calculates all the points so there is no maths involved. It may take a bit of time finding your way around but I found it the easiest way to track what you eat and it's worth persisting in the long term.
Whatever the regime the biggest problem is motivation. If you have that then I think other problems such as buying exercise gear are secondary.
Oh Crunchies that is so kind of you Im a 38K but as luck would have it Royce have started making them in a K cup so am going to get one from them.
Am not going back to WW tonight as i just cant get to grips with the numbers and maths of it Thanks for trying to help but ppl with dyscalculia just dont think that way. We have a long way to go before it is seen as on a par with dyslexia .
I may go back to SW but as im now excersising every day and muscle will weigh more than fat if i see the scales go up it might put me off excersising.
The shopping giude is £15 its too much money and i dont think its fair to make more money out of someone because they have a learning deficit in one area.
the SW food directory is cheaper. But i cant afford to do a slimming class AND buy excercise gear so its a no brainer really.
Thanks again for the offer of the bra Crunchies Its very kind of you
