Welcome to thread 14 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.
The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:
1. Eat what you WANT
2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full
This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!
The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.
This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.
You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.
Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2014 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process so get stuck in

I have the both the make u thin and the gastric band book. Which is better? And how important are the golden rules? I'm a teacher so struggle with the eating only when hungry- I can only eat at break and lunch!
I have 2.5stone to lose and can't stick at anything. I am constantly eating biscuits/cake at work and have no motivation to exercise. My size is really making me miserable but when I am miserable I eat so it is a vicious circle!

I'm doing pretty well I think. Refusing to get on the scales yet. I'm not snacking as much and soooo busy at work! I discovered a really yummy GF cereal that I had with yogurt on my break.
Howdy 2. I've not done the gastric band but I do like ICMYT. I know what you mean about opportunity to eat but I find if I eat slow releasing carbs I can wait to eat on my breaks and not be too hungry. It sounds like you're comfort eating at work? Following the rules will help with that.
I'm not sure it is even comfort eating alittlefaith just habit and the fact I am a greedy heifer!
Do you think it would matter if I fell asleep whilst listening with 2 little ones I don't get half an hour to myself very often?!

Yep, fostering progressing, and she moves in soon. Met her today, lovely girl.
Had a brill day today. Started back at my Zumba dance class and yoga one that DH is at nursery. Had a fostering meeting, and it was 13.30 PM before I even thought about eating as I was'nt hungry until then.
Just shows, when you are busy, how you can easily clock watch thinking its time for meals, instead of listening to your own body clock.
Then rebooted tonight by listening to my gastric band, so have adjusted it. It Definately does something, as afterwards I always feel full and bloated even if I haven't eating.
Just hope I'm back in the zone now.
Hi 2children. I like to re read both the books at times, but prefer to listen to the gastric band trance. I always feel full quicker and eat less with this. However I've noticed that I need to listen to it at least once a week to remain in the zone so to speak, and to maintain it.
I have lots of periods of emotional eating, and feeling un motivated, but find that doing the trance again, and making little adjustments to my life, such as exercising, or being busy can get me back on track.
I have still yet to lose weight, but I think that comes once you get into this way of eating properly. It also takes time to get rid of the damage done by years of dieting, and re programming your mind.
You can fall asleep while listening to the trance as it goes into your subconscious.
I often find myself drifting off and thinking of other things. But weirdly your subconscious takes notice without you trying. In fact it works better when you relax, and just go with the flow
Ps. Well done Faith for not getting on those scales. That's what I'm trying to stop, and just going by my clothes. No sign of them being any looser yet though, but hopefully soon as I'm back in the zone.
Another thing 2children, I can remember someone telling me that they had structured meal breaks, but usually that was enough as they were usually hungry then. Are you sure that you are hungry out of those times?

Jelly well done on going til 1pm, boredom is definitely a big factor in mindless eating, but sounds like you've got your hands full so that won't be a problem anymore!
Welcome 2c! I haven't read the gastric band book, but I do have ICMYT and his new one, Freedom From Emotional Eating, and found together these cover everything I need, I especially like FFEE as this is my main problem area. The 4 Golden Rules are key in both books, so there's no way you can lose weight without following them. But in FFEE he talks about how most people have a natural hunger routine, some people eat little and often, some people only eat once a day, it's about what your body needs. Why don't you try rigidly sticking to the rules on one of your days off, you may find that you get hungry naturally in line with your breaks. Also, you don't have to eat the minute you get hungry, just as long as you don't get too ravenous that you wolf your food down mindlessly. Another thing in FFEE is that apparently it's been proven that people who pray before a meal eat less, obviously it's not the prayer that affects this, just the pausing beforehand. So if you do find that by your break you're dangerously hungry, just pause and remind yourself of your goals and remember to eat as slowly as possible. Hope this helps!

Golden rules are definitely the way to go. 2, now, don't take this the wrong way, but you say that you can only eat at break and lunch, but then go on to say that you are constantly eating biscuits/cake at work. I would say that not taking in cakes and biscuits could mean that you are really ready for your lunch at lunch time. Also, if you are feeling hungry and can't eat food stuffs, have a mug of hot chocolate ~ a really yummy one like Galaxy because it takes the edge off, is sweet enough without adding sugar, so it is satisfying. Try not to go for the low fat/cal/sugar ones unless you prefer the taste! remember! it is an aid to weight loss if you eat what you want and that includes drinks too. We don't deprive ourselves of anything on this system, we just eat it consciously, so no marking homework or watching TV whilst you are chewing. Even the closing your eyes to really taste the flavour will change your perception of the foods you eat. Cakes become sweet, sickly and gloopy when you follow this rule of conscious chewing. That makes you realise that they aren't as nice as you thought they were ~ good news! because you don't crave what you don't like
Make sure that you chew your food 20 times each mouthful and if you are having something like soup/yoghurt/porridge that requires little or no chewing, put your spoon down once you have a mouthful and count to 20 before the next one!
Drink water often. I found that drinking a glass of water before bed helped the lbs go too.
Jelly sounding good all round I always found running around as a landing officer meant that there was no time to munch (or drink) anything until lunchtime! horrendous when you last ate a meal at 05:30 hours!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. solo I work in a private school so the food is provided thus it is a complete minefield. I have that 'but it's free' thing going on and I also try and kid myself that I will have a big lunch and a small tea. I am also so engrained in the habit if going into the staff room and eating 2 biscuits. I really need to stop going in so as to break the habit really.
I think I am a bit deluded as well because most of the time I convince myself I look ok and not as fat as I think I am.... And then I catch a glance of myself when I'm not concentrating and I don't recognise myself. I have got the books of the shelf and will try to read today and tomorrow with a view to listening tomorrow.
You all sound so knowledgable . Is the plan working for you? Have you got to a goal weight? How long did it take? I like the idea of it not being a diet so that hopefully when I do lose weight I won't just go 'yay' and go back to my old ways.
It's working for me, but even though I'm overweight (not massively, don't know how much I weigh, but I'm a size 12-14 which isn't huge I suppose, but too big really for my 5'4" frame) I'm not doing it for the weightloss (although that would be a nice side effect!) but to develop a healthy relationship with food. I've been doing this way of eating on and off for 6 years, but I've finally given up diets for good and whilst I'm not 100% all the time, overall I feel I'm making progress which is good as I learnt most of my bad habits from my mum and I really don't want to pass these onto my DC especially DD.

To be totally honest here you have to stop the mindless snacking of chocolate and stuff in between meals because that is just overeating. Only you can make the conscious decision to not do it. If when you are really hungry and you want chocolate cake then have a slice of chocolate cake then wait until your hungry again. I don't always eat with my husband and kids. If im not hungry then I don't eat when they do, I wait until I do feel hungry. I sit and have a cup of tea with them. They don't mind.
Hopefully your post will spurr me on to stop the mindless snacking. I need you sitting on my shoulder when I'm doing this mindless eating Lol. Tell you what, I'm going to imagine you're there next time I'm tempted.

Some inspiring words I've just read fron Geenan Roth's ' breaking free from emotional eating':
' Being hungry is like being in love: if you don't know, you're probably not'.
Read her other book about compulsive eating, but did not really like it. It was more about people's experiences.
Hopefully this is a better book, as it teaches you how to break free from emotional eating.
Also re ordered PM's new book and disc.
I'm trying to read instead of snacking, and it's helping.

2 yes, I think avoiding the staff room until you feel in control is a good idea. The 'but it's free' thing I can totally get. If I have a big meal at lunch time, I will usually go for soup for my evening meal, or if I'm still full up, I won't eat. I lost 2st initially, but have had some crap this past year and assaulted at work and I turned to food and emotional eating again.
Actually, I have not read any of the books (yet!!!) and I haven't listened to a disc for a very long time, but this past few days, I've found myself leaving that all important mouthful on my plate and this morning, despite having a much smaller sized bowl (but same as yesterday), I actually threw away quite a bit of my hot oats (ready brek). I didn't even really think about it; I just felt full, ate another mouthful, thought 'no' and binned it! I then had a latte at lunchtime (slightly hungry, not enough to eat) and at around 3pm, I had a cheese and pickle sandwich. Didn't leave any though! Chicken Korma for dinner. Feeling more positive!
Hi all, would you mind if I joined this thread? I am new to Mumsnet, have a dd who is 5 now (scary how quick the time goes!) I have been trying to lose weight since before she was born really - I have been up and down a fair bit during this time but currently have about 4 and a half stone to lose to get to a good, healthy weight. I have been trying to get back into WW over the past year after doing it in the past but just don't want to be on diets anymore - I want to change my attitude to food and emotional eating. I have PM's ICMYT book and CD and plan on getting the Emotional Eating one asap. You all sound like a very supportive bunch from reading the posts

Jelly I'll think you'll find his new book really helpful. I noticed in your post on the webchat that you talked about low serotonin levels and he writes about this in the book. Must admit it was too sciencey for me so just skimimed that bit, but think it was something along the lines of some people's brains block serotonin after a trauma so you're constantly looking to food to produce that high, but by following the techniques in the book your brain makes new connections and can start to produce it again. Or something like that anyway! Either way I think it will really help you get a handle on your emotional eating and stop snacking all the time.

jelly I'm exactly the same. I eat sweets when I fancy them, not when I'm hungry. Let's kick the habit together! After feeling so positive I ate chocolate after tea last night when I wasn't hungry , even though I left about 1/4 of my tea because I was full! Starting afresh this morning.

With you on this then! Probably better that I kick the sweet habit, as my teeth have also been suffering. Went to dentist last week, so they are all fixed for now.
I do the choc thing too, but also like you, just trying to eat it when hungry.
Did well though, carried a Mars bar in my handbag for 3 days, that was before I thought the dog might rip apart my handbag to eat it. Although I was'nt hungry for it, this became my stupid excuse to eat it. I could have just put it out of reach of the dog.

Solo- I'm also surprised that you haven't read any of Paul's books, and haven't listened to the cd for ages. But then you've done this for ages and even better you've been to Paul's seminar.
I did'nt know you'd been assaulted. In the job we were in, it's no surprise as we had to face this every day. As you know my husband who's also in the job had his jaw broken, and cheekbone fractured. He now has a metal plate in his jaw.
I was quite lucky to get out in one piece without being severely assaulted. Have been punched a few times, and pushed over.But that's all in the past for us now.

Hi, if like to join in please. I was luck enough to win FFEE from the webchat, but unfortunately my question wasn't answered. I've read ICMYT and have been getting on pretty well this week. Everyone at work I on a diet and I can see them all eyeing me up with disapproval when I'm eating non-diet food when I'm larger than the rest of them. I've never worked anywhere before where people talk so much about food at dieting. The irony is it's also the place with the most snacks and treats about.
