Weight Watchers V Slimming World.

Sorry if this has been done before.....

I've lost 2 and a half stone using Cambridge diet and am now very close to target weight(9st 8lb) but stuggling to afford to carry on with it and am so sick of my hair falling out.

To lose my last half a stone and then to maintain my weight I would like to use either Weight Watchers or Slimming World but trying to work out which would be better for me and my lifestyle.

So,can anyone tell me the pros and cons of both? TIA

just started weight watchers, I know nothing about the cambridge diet though! in WW you have two types of diet - pointa based and core. With the core one, you have a list of food which you can eat as much as you like until you are comfortably full. With the points based one, you are given a number of points based on your weight etc and you can eat whatever u like but cannot go over your limit. You can earn extra points by doing exercise. I have only been doing it 4 days but have not found the points system too bad, low fat choccie bars have helped!!!! And it does make me think more about portions and healthy food, I have not felt physically hungry although obviously when your kiddies are tucking into ice cream it is hard!

Good luck

sorry WW is awful. IMO. I did it for a long time and now I am doing slimming world. You can eat more on slimming world which is great as you really can eat loads and still lose. WW is mostly about portion control.

And with the points system - say you have 20 points a day. You could "spend" them all on wine & choc. But that isnt very healthy is it? with slimming world you fill up on all your free foods and you still have an allowance of "syns" to get your treats. I have wine and choc every day and I have lost a stone in 5 weeks on slimming world!!!!

Really cant stress enough WW is not a great solution for me. For other people maybe but NOT me!!! I like food too much!!

Another slimming world fan here - have lost 3 stone so far gone from a size 20 to a size 14 - and never felt hungry had takeaways, choc etc for my syns - slimming world is better IMO because you can use it as a way of eating for life whereas WW is much more an actual diet IYSWIM!

in defence of the ww poits system, there are lots of foods (mainly veggie) that are zero points so if you made a veggie curry or vegetable soup - it would either be zero points or very low points so you needn't go hungry. However, i do find it a little silly that fruits are pointed albeit at a low value. going out to eat on the points system does seem to be abit of a minefield though, as not to break your limit, you would need to do some major exercise that day, save points from a previous day AND probably eat nothing the rest of the day!!!!! Oh the things we do!

I guess with any system it is all about how you approach it!

most fruit on WW has a relatively high points value. A decent sized banana is between 1 and 2. On slimming world you could eat 20 bananas a day for nothing as all fruit is free.

I am vegetarian so dont have a problem with veg curries etc but not every night! almost never any potatoes etc. All potatos are free on slimming world.

Was cynical about SW initially but I lost 2.5st after having dd2, going from 11.5 st to
9st and dropped 2 dress sizes. I rejoined last night as a stone has "crept" back on over the colder months!! I know SW works for me, I'm on a green day today and have just had a huge plate or morrocan couscous and roasted veg and a muller lite....I couldn't eat another thing.

I'm doing WW and tbh, am doing fine on it. Have lost almost a stone in 5 weeks. It's no real struggle and I've not been hungry at all and have been out a few times to eat and just made healthy choices.

I've also had my birthday and just took a ww break for a day and carried on as normal the following day - I still lost weight that week. I do eat fruit and it's really not high in points value. Small banana is only a point and I don't buy the big ones anyway. Salad and veg are free and I love salad.

WW imo is just a sensible eating plan. I'd be interested to know how SW works though as someone in my evening class is doing it and raves about it. She's lost about the same amount of weight as me.

I really like WW, I follow the points system because I like the fact that you can eat anything! I also like being able to earn extra points with exercise.

Eating out is doable but you have to plan carefully and the choice is fairly limited tbh. Eg I have chinese takeaway about once per week but I limit myself to about 3 low point choices.

fwiw, the core plan system sounds v similar to SW, you have a list of healthy food you can eat unlimited amounts of at meal times and then you have an extra allowance of points for treats.
