Slimfast shakes, lots of water, homemade soup made with just veg and water, and ryvita and salad for three weeks should do the trick.

Be warned, it will be a superficial way of losing it, as it will go back on when you start to eat normally.

It is very boring to eat like that, but I find it works, especially if you try and do more exercise - which for me is just doing more walking as I don't do sweating!

Also, if what you're eating doesn't cover all the vits and minerals you need, take a multi vit as you don't want to get ill over Christmas.

porridge for breakfast and lunch
couple of apples and an orange or any fruit for tea
or plain soup made with vegetables and nothing else
no bread, pasta or rice or potatoes

make porridge with water only - no milk
if you like it with sugar have the fake sugar instead sprinkled over

you may lose the blubber, but you will also lose the prettyiness of your face.
your skin will be sallow and pale. your face will be pinched. your eyes will be hollow dark rings, very skull like.

if that is thelook you want, then, go for it!

When I need to lose a bit of pudge from round the old middle I do the following:

No breakfast (yes strictly against all the advice I know but then I don't ever have breakfast anyway, just not a morning person)

Normal, but small lunch of whatever the family is having, excluding any carb item and no pudding unless citrus fruit

Salad of any raw veg items with drizzle of dressing for supper. Make salad big so you actually feel tired of eating by the time you finish

Swap lunch and supper if that suits the routine better.

Then I try to take up to four walks a day, easier said than done if you are working or the weather is bad, I know.

I usually lose about 3-4lb a week under this regime and it's not too horrible. I think cutting carbs out as far as possible makes a huge difference. As you have limited time I might be tempted to go the Slimfast route, but my way is less extreme and probably quite healthy (yes yes, I know about the vital-ness of breakfast )

cut out carbs,if you're really desperate cut all carbs out,if you aren't quite that desperate just cut out bread/rice/potatoes/pasta all processes carbs and sugar but continue with veg.

c utting out carbs is wonderful because it deflates your body. you dont get any thinnber, well not immediately, but it cuts downon swelling beautifully.
also cut out caffeine.
so, no bread, pasta, rice, potatos. tea coffee, drinks, other than alcohol, milk, sweetened youghurts etc.
what can youeat you ask? well, all meat/fish/chicken products, but without being breaded and without flour based sauces
all vegetables.
personally i cant live without fruit, but strictly speaking they have loads of sugar in them.
good luck

For a while it helped me to cut out after 5 bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, cereal, limit coffee and tea (not to cut out completely) and have vegetabe soups made with water and plenty of raw salads with a little or no dressing (dressing was only home made 1 tbs of olive oil, 3 tbs of lemon juice and fresh herbs. I also was dancing to disco music 20 minutes every evening (or most evenings). Unfortunately I've got fed up, stopped dancing, relaxed my rules and the weight started to build up again. you said though you needed it for a limited time so if you cut outin addition to it all bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, crisps, buisuits, chocolates, any sweets, fruit yougurts and ny offenders you can think of, it will work. Also people say fruit is full of sugar but berries, apples, peaches and many other fruits and berries can help you slimming. Water is helpful as well and when I stopped having fruit juice with my meals and swiched into water it helped as well. Another thing is not to beat yourself up when you slip (i have to say I do it as well) because i tend to eat more if i feel I failed something. We are all allowed to have some treats and although I developed my list of treats: hairdresser, massage, getting a nice outfit, ear rings, manicure - it can be endless really, I still know that from time to time all I want is that thing I said to myself I can't have so I have it. I wish you good luck!

Atkins is great for fast weight loss in a short space of time. You'll look and feel much less bloated in less than a week. I had a much flatter stomach within days and I lost a stone in a month. I've put it all back on again but I did keep it off for a while and it's great if you need to lose weight for an occasion.
The only problem is cutting out the carbs...

i would do
no wheat
no sugar
loads of water
no caffeine and definitely no diet soft drinks
20 mins brisk walking per day

and magic pants

i lost 10lbs in 3 weeks doing that but i was a big fat bloater to start with and although it was all water waist shrunk considerably

On Atkins you can have as much meat, fish, eggs, cheese as you want, and limited veg, nuts, cream instead of milk in your coffee and some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head.
No sugar or starch.

By the way, I've just found out that SW suggests to have every day in your diet apples, apricots, cherries, grapefruit, kiwi fruit, nectarines, melon and many other fruit. So fruit can't be that bad for slimming.

The real beauty of Atkins is that it's a way of eating that - if you do it properly - ensures that you're eating plenty of salad and veg. Fruit is more difficult (especially during the 2 week induction period).

If you follow the induction period, you could lose as much as 10lbs (depending on how much you have to lose and assuming that you follow it to the letter)

I can see so many people are for Atkins diet. I personally think it doesn't matter what diet you follow - any diet will work in a short while. It's hard to keep it up. If you just cut out some things which are fattening and you are presently eating it will work miracles. For spome people it's chise, bread and chocolate. Anyway, please let me know how you are getting on and good luck!

I think Atkins is probably harder than most in that it's definitely something that you have to stick with and keep doing. If you don't, then you quickly put the weight back on.

I know the original idea of this post was to get off some weight for a particulat occasion but I can't help thinking that it's nice to keep the weight off as well. So in these lines it's probably better to find something realistic. may be just to limit the offnders like crisps, chocolate and stuff. I don't know. I'm not the expert. It's just a thought. For me soups work magic. I try to have water based vegetable soup almost every day and i don't have bread with it. i just use a lot of vegies to make it satisfying. In winter it's very nice. In summer you can have cold soups. Salads are good as well. If you try to have 5 to 10 portions of fruit and vegies you wouldn't have much room left for cakes and stuff. Anyway, that's only my opinion. Good luck.
