I really don't get it - I weighed myself yesterday morning and I was 13st 1lb. I weighed myself just before going to SW and I was suddenly 13.6!!!

How is this possible? It was right as well, SW scales said the same thing. THen this morning, I'm back down to 13.1.

What's that all about?

I'm actually really fed up with SW, it just isn't working. I think you might be able to eat too much on green days? I can't do red because I'm veggie.

I think I'll give it one last week; I'm going to write everything down, exercise and not cheat, and crucially I'm going to restrict the size of carb portions, cos I don't care what anyone says, there is no way I can eat unlimited spuds etc and lose weight. I've been going for about 6 weeks, and despite losing 3.5lbs one week, I put it back and I'm now only half a poxy pound lighter than I was at the beginning. I'm just paying £4.50pw to get thoroughly depressed, it seems.

Anyone else been in the same boat?

Is it really possible to gain and lose 4lbs in 24 hours?

It's becaused you are lighter in the morning thatn later on in the day. I found SW brilliant and I only did green days too. Do make sure you write everything down and make sure you aren't having any hidden syns. It definately works I lost nearly 4 stone before falling pregnant again.

That's brilliant Ledodgy!

It seems to really work for everyone else but it isn't for me. I wouldn't mind but I did 3 half hour sessions of exercise last week and still put on a pound. I just don't get it.

Perhaps it's worth getting your thyroid checked if you are dieting and not losing weight just to rule out an under active thyroid. Meanwhile try and eat lots of speed and super speed foods this really does help.

Your body weight does fluctuate throughout the day because you are eating/drinking/going to the loo, so that will affect your weight. You do usually weigh less first thing in the morning - were you dressed in the morning when you stood on the scales?

I lost loads of weight on SW doing green days.

Make sure you do a (completely honest) food diary. Weigh your healthy extras like cereal to make sure you are having what you think your are. And count all the syns you are having. Good luck - it can be done.

I had my thyroid tested a while ago - all normal apparently.

I will def diary everything this week and see how that goes. I did drink a fair bit last weekend but it should have been covered within my syns allowance. I'm not going to drink at all this week, and will stick to it to the letter. If it doesn't work, then I guess it's not for me.

My sw consultant says that it works for the majority of people - but there are the odd few who just can't lose on a mostly green day plan.

You could try changing the type of carbs that you have for lower Gi ones that will fill you up quicker. I'm mostly on green days but I have brown rice, wholeweat pasta and lots of couscous. I find that it fills me up quicker.

The other thing is the old cliche about making sure that your have 8 glasses of liquid a day and 5 portions of fruit and veg. I don't allow myself any booze syns unless I have hit both of those targets during the day.

Cheers Nikki - that's interesting. I'm definitely not going to drink this weekend, I'm on an absolute mission.

Do you think that if you have a "flexible syn" day it means you probably won't lose weight at all?

I'm wondering if the fact that you are allowed to eat so much means there's not much leeway for getting it wrong?

If I have a flexi syn day I tend to cut back on my syns the rest of the week.

I like to have a bottle of wine at the weekend. I know that it's around 30 syns for a bottle - so I only have 10 syns a day the rest of the wekk. That gives me an extra 35 syns for wine allowance.

I suspect that I get away with eating more than some because I go to the gym at least 3 times a week as well. That said I still only lost 1/2 pound last week.

Bint if you actually weigh yourself every day twice a day at the same time, naked for one week you will find that your weight goes up and down rather a lot - this actually means you begin to learn what your body is doing and then realsie that your not putting on weight by eating a few chips etc its just water.

80% of your body is water and the amount is best after your 7/8 hours sleep at night so weight in the morning is more like your proper weight than the weight you are in the evening when you will have drunk eaten tec.

It takes 3500 calories to put on one pound in weight - its the same to lose one pound you need to lose 3500 calories from your diet - this isn't going to happen overnight! Literally your weight isn't going to really change very much in one week - its just water change.

Fad diets cut out fluid to make it appear you have lost weight on the scales, your clothes will not feel that different though as its just a little fluid.

If you used to eat 2300 calories a day and on sw you are eating 1800 calories a day you should lose one pound every week

Try not to weigh yourself too much. If you can just stick to weighing at the sessions, it really helps.

Don't cut your syns to nothing, that usually ends up in bingeing later on when you feel miserable.

Do weigh everything that is restricted - I was having 5 times the amount of muesli that I was supposed to

I love SW, and have lost 4 stone on it twice (pre and post DS1). I was also a consultant, although I stopped a few years ago, so I'm not up to date with the new plans.

I've got a really good sheet to fill in to help you work out where things go wrong. It's called an SAS log - ask your consultant for some if you don't lose much weight in the next week. Alternatively, you can send me a CAT message and I'll post you one.
