Is it possible to get half marathon fit by Sept?

I'm trying to work out whether a) this is achievable and b) what I should be doing to get there....
I would like to run a half marathon towards the end of September. On April the 1st I decided to take up C25K - loved it and built from there. I am now running 10k 2 or 3 times a week and 14k-ish at the weekends - I manage the 10k fine and the 14k is a bit of a push but again ok. I should say I started this very overweight with about 3.5 stone to lose - I've lost just over 2 stone now and dropped from BMI of 32 to one of 27. I know BMI is just a rough guide but I recognise I am still overweight.

So do you think a half marathon would be achievable in approx 10 weeks and if so how should I build up from here? In the week I am limited to about an hour of time I can get to exercise but can do longer at the weekends. Should I just keep upping the weekend distances? Where I run is quite hilly so lots of hillwork already built in. Any advice would be appreciated.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far. I think it's totally achievable considering the distances you are running at the moment.

Why don't you download the Nike Running app? I use it to keep logging my runs, and I know there is a half marathon training programme in the 'coach' section. I haven't done a half marathon, but I like to use the training to keep me going!

MYou will have to go out most days though if you use this app. Good luck.

Yes you should easily manage it :) If you have a google there are lots of free plans that can help you and tell you when and what to train. The womens running website has a lot of good plans

You should have no problems with getting 1/2 marathon fit by September but you need to start the plan asap.
For the first one I would recommend MyAsics, as they have none of that hill-workout / interval nonsense which you wouldn't need at the moment imho. The app asks how far you can run at the moment and sets realistic goals so you won't have to set yourself up for a fail.
I think endomondo has training plans as well and they link calories usage to MFP - not too sure it's important to you, it is to me :)
Good luck and have fun!

Totally achievable, and very well done on amazing weight loss and running!

Loads of plans out there so you can find one to suit you, running magazines often have training programmes in, or loads online. Your long runs at the weekend will be great to build on, you aren't far off the distance already. Good luck.

Yes aim to elongate the weekend run slowly up to the 18k mark. So do 15k two weekends, 16k the following two weekends, 17k the next two weekends, 18k the next two weekends, then a two week taper before the half marathon.

Maybe try Keep your week day runs the same distance but vary the pace throughout. Bit of jogging and sprinting.

The hills will really prepare you for the race. Adrenaline and the atmosphere will carry you through. Write your name in your number

Start steady and take it easy in the first mile of the race.

You could look into Bob Glover's plans (Google or his book) - I followed them successfully for a half marathon and I'm no natural athlete!

I think you have enough time: would gradually extend 1 weekend run, but keep distances on 2 other runs constant: possible make 1 of those hilly or intervals, the other a steady enjoyable run
Good luck with it :)
