It works but I personally find it hard going. Did a week between Christmas and New Year. Plan on picking it back up when DH back at work on 15th Jan and doing the whole month. I tend to cheat and allow myself a few glasses of wine once a week over a meal together. Otherwise DH gets bored and we give in completely.

Good luck, I do feel so much better when I finish and the weight does drop off although she says that shouldn't be the focus

sorry - was watching this Life and fell asleep! I have done it twice and it is excellent not just in ternsm of weight loss which I think is in line with any other diet about 8-10 lb per month... but the other things such as great skin, loads of energy, more to eat etc. I found it did change my eating habits.. as it made me think more about food as it removes most of my core staples... cheese sandwiches are the corner stone of my existance!!

I had limitless energy after the first 3 days and just writing this now makes me think I should do it again...

what are the principles of it?

is it safe to exercise whilst doing it?

and do you buy a book? join somewhere online?

sorry for all the questions

Thanks all - this is day 1 for me and have just been to Sainsburys and bought my body weight in fruit and veg!

Kittylette - my sister has given me her book (Detox for Life) which has a day by day guide (if you want to follow it that religiously) as well as recipes. It actually doesn't look too bad as I am veggie anyway, but I will really miss bread and dairy products.

Kittylette - meant to add that the principles are to follow it for 28 days cutting out all wheat, dairy, meat, fish and the usual 'naughties' i.e. cakes etc!!

The idea is that you follow it as a healthy eating plan to kick start yourself and that the main point is not to lose weight ( although everyone says you do) but to detox your body. Once you finish you can start to build the missing foods back into your diet but keeping to about 75% of the detox principles.

The recipes look quite good (the basis of them are fruit, veg, pulses, grains, and non-wheat pasta and cereals etc), and she encourages exercise during it too.

Wish me luck!

I'm starting on 15th Jan when DH goes back to work. I find it easier to stick to it during the day when there's just me to cater for (and the boys of course, but they don't suggest lunch at various food outlets where the only veggie is limply attached to a burger of some description. DH's idea of veggies given half the chance is having steak and mushroom pie instead of steak and cheese). You do feel great at the end.

lol cheese sandwiches, they are my stapple diet too, so easy.

good luck everybody

Just a quick update - am on day 2 and actually it's not too bad so far (porridge for breakfast, soup for lunch and a veg curry for tea). If you're thinking about doing it, go for it, and good luck!

I have the book and started on New Year's day roughly following her principles. I lasted 2 and half days until I took the kids ice skating and ate half of dd's chips and mayo . BUT am back on the wagon today and trying to follow the principles. Its basically the same as most detox diets - you have to cut out all meat, poulty and fish as they are supposed to be harder for the body to digest, all dairy, wheat, any processed or refined foods, so no white pasta, rice, refined sugar etc., salt.

Basically, it seems like you can eat unlimited fruit and veg, nuts, seeds, pulses, wheat free crispbreads and you can use oils like olive oil. The recipes are okay but I found them a bit samey. I read them on NY day along side a Gordon Ramsay bookbook - guess which ones I preferred All the recipes serve 4 but my family wouldn't be happy eating most of them TBH - stuff like quinoa and brown rice pilaf just isn't my husbands thing!

She recommends vit supplements and you are not supposed to weigh yourself at all on this diet. I have vit C tabs and green tea capsules which are supposed to help the detox amongst other things

Oxocube, I know what you mean! My dh works away during the week so I don't have to worry about feeding him. He has already said though that he won't be joining me in my detox foods! I asked him whether he was going to be cooking for himself then

Good luck with it

I am on day 7 and am finding breakfast (porridge) and lunch (soup) ok - but I am running out of inspiration for supper - any ideas?

Am I the only one who thinks that the concept of 'detoxing' is a load of old hooey, then? I'm all for healthy eating but your body can 'detox' perfectly well already!

I know that the main reason for the programme is to improve your health and not to lose weight, but my sister did it last year and lost a stone. Now, considering that my dd is nearly 1 and I still have yet to lose the stone I gained with her (apart from the stone that I lost when I gave birth, that is!), I'm willing to give it a go

I have just ordered the Carol Voderman mini detox from Amaaon today. I did the 28 day one about 2 years ago and was really pleased how it changed my eating habits. I need to lose some weight so am hoping this plan will kick start me into action.
if anyone has the book currently, I would be very grateful if you could transcribe the shopping list, I need to do an online shop tonight. TIA

Hope it's not too late, but here are the main things she advises buying.

Mineral water, herbal teas.

Almond, Sesame or Rice Milk

All kinds of fruit and veg

Millet, Brown rice, Quinoa, Buckwheat, Oats, non-wheat pasta

Kidney beans, chickpeas, haricot beans, butter beans, hummus, lentils

Almonds, brazil nuts, walnuts, cashews, pine nuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds

Wheat-free yeast-fress bread, rye crackers, oatcakes, ricecakes

Sunflower and olive oil

Selection of dried herbs and spices.

Good Luck - I know she says not to weigh yourself, but I had a sneaky step on the scales this morning and I've lost 5lb in a week
