I'm losing weight for the nicest possible reason - a baby! Please cheer me on!

I'm not MASSIVE.

That's a lie. I am pretty big but I feel healthy and well in myself, don't struggle to climb stairs well maybe a bit breathless from time to time! and so on.

But facts are - I was on Wednesday 13 stone 11 lbs.

I want a baby. But want to be a healthy active mum. So here's my list of why I want to lose weight:

  1. To have pictures taken with my new baby and not be embarrassed shallow
  2. To make conceiving hopefully easier
  3. To not have lectures from midwives and medical professionals about high bmi.
  4. To be fit and active, taking the baby for walks and so on.
  5. To have as healthy a pregnancy as possible
  6. To live a long life and see my child grow, heart disease runs in my family.
  7. To be a healthy and positive role model.
  8. To feel good about myself and what my body can do
  9. To have my baby at home if I choose to do so :)

10. To not have a fat back!

So since I do want to TTC this summer I signed up with a lady to do the Cambridge weight plan on Wednesday, so far 100%. Bit hungry today though!

Ideally I'd like to get to the 10 stone mark :)

Please give me encouraging words.

Good for you, blackcat.

When I was trying to conceive the doctor told me to lose 30 pounds which I did through diet and exercise.

Had DS not long afterwards, he's now 2.2, had a healthy pregnancy, which was definitely helped by healthy diet. It's so worth it!

Congratulations and thank you for the support!

Day 3 coming to an end now. I'm ok, surprisingly.

Does Cambridge plan include drinking some food substitutes?

Congratulations on deciding to get healthier. However, a word of warning: drastic weight loss achieved for example by extreme calorie cutting with the Cambridge diet can also affect your fertility. I was 40 and my family was complete when I decided to lose the extra couple of stone i had been carrying round with me since my 20s. Achieved in about 3 or 4 months with low carb low fat, that was about 1 kg per week, 20% of my body weight. Periods disappeared quite quickly, and stayed away for 4+ yesrs even when I resumed a 'normal' maintenance pattern of eating. Lots of tests, not perimenopausal etc, no menopausal symptoms, just 'low levels of oestrogen' so I'm now on a form of HRT to maintain bone density etc.
Of course it could have other reasons but it's not unheard of. Get some medical advice regarding safe weight loss.

Sorry I didn't mean to make it sound as extreme as that, should have said 'lost less than 20%'. I never reached less than a size 10-12, or less than a bmi of about 22/23. Kept it off for 5+ years but need a bit of maintenance work now Blush
