do diet pills work?

Just that really?

I'm bursting through all my clothes. I haven't lost weight since giving birth in fact i think I'm fatter and i have just had enough.

I find diets hard. I am cooking all day long for others and so I am constantly around food and snacking.

I did fast pre baby and lost 2 stone and managed to keep it off for 12 months. But I can't seem to find the will power to fast again. Everyone is commenting on my weight, saying false nice things like "there is no need to rush to loose the weight, you do it when you are ready"

My mil brought me a swimming costume for Christmas (at my request) and it doesn't fit SadSadSad

I feel like a whale and I am desperate. Therefore the xls diet pill advertisement has got me thinking, do they work? Any gross side affects?

No. The only thing that will really work is addressing your diet. And that doesn't mean fasting or anything else that's unsustainable in the longer term.

If you're cooking all day long (all day? really?!), then make sure you're cooking things that aren't unhealthy.

I don't think I eat unhealthy things just portion size and snacking is an issue! But then maybe I'm in denial!

No. If they did, we'd all be size 8.

As BIWI says, it's all about your nutrition. I'm afraid you have to be in denial at least a little because nobody gained weight by eating well and exercising unless there was a health issue or medication involved.

Start tracking what you eat every day. Every single bite, spoon licked and sugary drink had. You'll probably be surprised but you'll have somewhere to start.

No. They make you fart and/or give you diarrhea. I've tried them myself.
It's bloody hard. I'm going to the gym 5 days a week for a 5k run on the cross-trainer and I've lost nothing in 2 weeks Sad

Damn it!!

Typically I eat;

8am breakfast (special k, or two weetabix ) tea with two sugars

10-10.30- I would probably be mindlessly snacking on toast with butter

1.00 lunch- left overs from what I had cooked for others, so today was cottage pie with broccoli and cabbage. Can also been things like spat Bol, veggie soup, homemade fish cakes.

Lunch followed by tea with two sugars. Maybe a satsuma/banana

3.00 begin to cook evening meal. Again I would snack on something, maybe yoghurt, anything sweet if we have it.

5.00 everyone is eating dinner. I will have few mouthfuls

7.30/8 I will be eating my dinner. Could be anything from fresh fish with roast veg, to spicy curry, burritos, toad in the whole. Tonight it will be lasagne.

I love fruit and veg and have a fresh organic box delivered every week. I have a real sweet tooth and snack a lot Blush

Writing it down I see how much it is.

I am 5ft11 and last time I checked I weighed 11st 8 but I'm certain it's over 12stone again .

If you're 5ft 11 I don't think you can call yourself a whale - even at 12 stone. I am 5ft 3 and weigh 13.5 stone, so I might call you a porpoise instead Wink.

The sugar is bad - you know that don't you? cut it out. Try sweeteners.
it's the snacking too (as I know to my cost). I've tried nuts and seeds as 'snack food' but it makes no difference.
Lighter lunches too - spag bol for lunch and then another main meal in the evening is too much.

Until I fell pregnant I never had sugar in my tea I developed such bad habits and haven't got out of them, she is one soon!

Yes I need to forget the fads and get back to eating less, moving more Blush

Your diet is massively carb-heavy, which won't be helping you! If you can drop the sugar from your tea, and switch to more veg and less fruit, that will be a great start.

Could you look to having a protein-based breakfast rather than a carb-based one? So a couple of boiled eggs, or poached eggs on (one slice of) wholemeal toast?

Avoid the low fat stuff too - you need fat, along with protein, to fill you up - carbs (sugar and fruit) will actually just make you more hungry.

Thanks BIWI good advice! Yes I love eggs and I know I don't get as much protein as I should

diet pills do not work, the only thing that works is healthy eating and physical activity I'm afraid.

Start by cutting down your sugar intake or swap to sweetners. you seem to eat a lot of fruit and veg which is good but try swapping some of the fruit for sweet veg alternatives such as carrots or sweetcorn to snack on.

As for portion sizes aim to fill 1 - 2 thirds of your plate with veg this is not only healthier it will fill you up so you eat less snacks. Try lean cuts of meat or aim to swap some of the red meat choices for chicken, turkey or fish.

good luck
