I have to do something.

I'm ashamed that I've allowed myself to get so huge. I've been in denial for years, avoided full length mirrors for years judging new clothes on how others say they look. I

I've downloaded MFP, brought a jawbone up2 tracker, got a pair of weight watchers scales, a pack of slim sip and am determined.

I've tried weight watchers, slimming world, Cambridge diet, orlistat, and a dietician. The next step for me is surgery, which I don't want.

I started today, anyone like to share my journey?

I'm in. I weighed myself on Monday morning and was 17st.11. :( My ideal weight would be around 10st., so yes, I have lots to lose. I'm doing 5:2, or at least, that's the plan.

I think I might join you

I weighed myself Monday after finding only my fat pants fit, and I'm 20st 8

I'm devastated that I've let it happen, and I am trying to get to grips with it.

I have a fitbit, and I've been documenting my food on there. I was eating far too many carbs and cake and I've done 2 days "added sugar" free. I'm still eating fruit, so can't say I'm completely sugar free.

I am finding it hard though. Can you recommend the slimsip?

I'm 19st, have lost weight before and recently piled it all back on!

My top tips are cut out and reduce things a little at a time for example

Week 1 - fizzy juice and higher fat spreads
Week 2 - reduce carb intake and up veggies

and so on, its much easier on the system than instantly just cutting everything, and that usually leads to giving in! Also switch to a smaller plate, most dinner plates these days are massive and makes it easier to pile on more food!

I'll join! waves
Im around 15st 6 ish and less than 5ft tall. Need to shift the weight to qualify for IVF and for my wedding. Will be going to supermarket in next few days to stock up then will make a go of it.

Im such a fussy eater....think i will do better just buying wire and wiring my jaws shut. Grin

Yes me, about 40kgs.

Im doing it with the help of MFP, 5 visits to the gym a week, trying to cut out confectionary altogether and for January Im going tee total. Im not doing sugar free as its not possible given there is sugar in fruit but I am determined to get my refined sugar intake well and truly taken care of.

Ive no idea what a a jawbone up2 tracker, a pack of slim sip are and the only thing Im going to add to what I do now is a Fitbit.

Im taking it one bit of a day at a time and this time I really do believe Im going to do it.

Can I join you?

I'm somewhere between 17.5 and 18 stone. Doing My Fitness Pal and cross trainer at home. Considering trying 5:2.

It is so, so easy to get into a rut, and to put on a little bit of weight every week without noticing much, until the weeks add up to years and the several extra pounds have turned into several extra stones. I don't want to beat myself up about it anymore, but I do want to change it.

I have found this thread really motivating.

Day 3 for me. Managed 1200 calories Monday and yesterday. Aiming for 1000 today. I did try 5:2 a while back and while I managed to lose weight on it, physically I was a wreck so I'm just going as low as I can

Good to see so many of you motivated to give it a try. san a jawbone is similar to a fit bit and slim sip is a powder you add to water that fibre in it to help you feel full quicker

I'm I would suggest not following a very low calorie plan every day - it is too hard to sustain.

Imnotaslimjim · 06/01/2016 13:32

Don't worry, I won't be. I can't stay that low long term. This is more to give the weight loss a kickstart. I'll increase to around 1400 a couple of times a week (thats the amount the dr suggested last time I asked for help)

Yep, i'm roughly the same weight and TTC with PCOS and getting nowhere. I was doing 5:2 and had some results but was getting bored with eating the same things day in day out on fast days, then slipped off it completely when we went on a family holiday. Everyone else was eating so much delicious crap I fell out of it and put all the weight back on in three months since.

No idea how i'm going to lose the weight now though. Am considering my options, don't want to pay out loads of money for no results, but looking at SW, WW or slimfast to get me going and maybe go back to 5:2 soon.

What i'd really like is a calorie counting meal planner that then tells me what i need to buy for the week and just get on with it!

sus have a Google, there is loads online for weight loss. Diets plans already written out so you just have to go shopping and follow what it says. If you have the self control to not go off it, they're a great idea

Yes, me too, just a pound or two lighter than you. I need to get myself a Fitbit and I am signing up for WW next week. I am also entering with two friends to do the Moonwalk in May in London so I am hoping that the training for that will help.

hollyp i'm in exactly the same position.

imnotaslimjim all the ones that contain lots of fish and eggs, what do you sub for them? I tend to end up eating a lot of chicken when I do it that way, and I'm allergic to Quorn.

One of my favourite lunches is making pizzas from sandwich thins! Quick, easy and really does taste like pizza! Low in calories too, add a salad and its very filling!

Report
Imnotaslimjim · 06/01/2016 21:15

I quite like fish and eggs so haven't considered replacing them. I'm assuming you don't like them?

When I'm trying really hard I have a lot of fish, scrambled eggs, chicken, pork, turkey, tinned tomatoes and beans.

Sandwich thins pizza is a fab idea, definitely going to try that

Hi both of you! I didn't expect any replies to be honest, great to know I'm not alone!

I've started with the slim sip and I've found it quite good, I take it 30 minutes before meals and it's really helped to curb my cravings between meals. I'm also using MFP and sticking to the calories its suggesting. All in all a good start, and I already feel less bloated.

I'm loving my fitness tracker too, although I'm shocked at how little I move Shock so I'll be doing my best to move more!

Hello OP, thanks for the thread :)

I started on Monday, starting weight an even 250lb. I've decided to do 5:2, tracking on MFP. On non-fast days, I'll aim to keep it under 2000 and also do a half hour on the cross trainer. On fast days, under 600.

After many years of trial and error, I think that's a combination that I'll be able to stick to and that will work for me.

I managed to keep it under 2000 on Monday and Tuesday, but didn't do the cross trainer as I have a nasty cold and just didn't feel up to it (not a great start I know, but genuinely felt rubbish). Today was my first fast day, and I've finished logging at 524. Feeling proud of my self control.

I am really looking forward to 1800/1900 calories feeling like LOADS tomorrow!

Well done Newyear. :) Think our starting point is very similar as I weighed in at 249lb. Also started on Monday and I'm doing 5:2 as well. Did my first fast on Monday, second one tomorrow -so far, so good. How much are you hoping to lose altogether?

Hello biscuit, I'm delighted to have support from a weight loss 'twin' :) Thank you for my first "well done"!

And well done to you too, week 1 of fasting done after tomorrow! Are you thinking you'll stick to the same two fast days each week, or decide week-by-week which days will be easiest to do? My work schedule varies a lot, and sometimes includes working lunches with colleagues, so I think I'll have to keep it flexible and fit two fast days in each week wherever I can.

In terms of goals, I know that the last time I felt healthy and confident about my body, I was 12.5 stone. Still overweight, but it didn't bother me because I felt good and was happy with my reflection etc. So ultimately I'd like to get to what's considered healthy for my height - 11 stone I think - but I will be thrilled when I get under 13.

Milestones in the meantime: at my next weigh in, I'll be under my starting weight of 250, so closer to 200 than 300! That's good.

At 16 stone, I'll be the weight I was when I got pregnant with my daughter. I'd love to have another one and the clock is ticking (I'm 40) so I'll be glad to feel less like it's my weight as much as my age that's making it difficult to conceive.

At 14 stone, I'll be the weight I was when I got married, and while at the time I felt I was too big, I look at my wedding pictures now and think I'd love to be back there. So I'll remind myself of that when I get back to 14!

New, it sounds like we really are weight loss twins!

I work FT and also end up having working lunches with colleagues quite often, so I too will have to be flexible about which days are fast days, but I'm determined to keep weekends as non-fast days if I can!! As far as possible, I'd like to fast on Mondays and Thursdays, but I already know I'll have to switch things around this month. I think that's the good thing about 5:2 though - it's so flexible.

It's a good idea to have milestones, might have to think of some for myself. Weirdly, I was also around 16st. when I got pregnant with dd. Have long since given up on having any more, if I'm honest - I'm 42 now, and am actually quite happy with the one child these days.

I have no idea what I weighed when I got married, but I'd certainly like to get back there!

My ideal weight would be around 10st., but I'd be thrilled to get anywhere near that. I've been horrendously heavy for too long!

slimjim no, don't eat fish or eggs and as I said, am allergic to Quorn so thats definitely out. Also not a big fan of pork. Guess I'm just going to have to do some looking around for recipes and stuff. Am so lazy though!

newyear all sounds good, good luck!
