My DH and I need a fitness kick - help!

My DH is getting rather hefty, and my weight is creeping on too.

I cycle and am vegetarian, DH does neither. I have v little lasting willpower and our working lives are v busy - he does the cooking mostly and it's things like risotto, pasta bake etc - v carby.

We used to run but haven't in a while. Can anybody make any suggestions for getting into a routine? I know my portion sizes are large and I tend just to carry on eating whatever is on my plate! I used to be a stone and a half heavier and I reeeeeally don't want to go back to those days!

Could you enter a duathlon a couple of months from now and train for it together? One with a 5k run and manageable bike distance?
