I can't believe I didn't realise how big I had got!

Went out for a meal for DM's birthday last month and had lots of photos taken during the evening, I'd managed to avoid the camera for a while, especially full body photos. Later that evening DM text me the photos and I was absolutely horrified at my size, I couldn't believe that was me, it felt like I was looking at someone else. My face was huge, I had the start of a double chin! My arms were like hams, my stomach stuck out and my stick thin dsis commented I had gained a lot of weight in front of the whole family Blush which I had a good cry about when I got home. It was that same night I decided I have to do something about this right now.
I'm forever deciding to go on diets however they never last long before I slip back into my old habits and end up heavier than I was when I began.
Today is day 26 and I have managed to lose 11 lbs so far, this is the longest I have managed to stay on a diet and I won't give up this time round, I'm using mfp to calorie count and walk 2 miles a day.
I just can't believe I hadn't realised I had gotten so big until I saw those photos....

You are doing really well! How much do you want to lose?

I'm in a similar boat at the moment. I hate the way that my clothes stretch for me so I don't realise that I'm putting on weight.

That is a wonderful effort. Just keep going and remember that your view of yourself is far more critical than anyone else ever would be.

thehumanjam I have around 60 lbs left to lose to be at an ideal weight and I'd like to reach that by September 2016.

That wasn't nice of your sister, I would be horrified!
The pictures though, sometimes this is what we need.. Somehow our brains doesn't show us how big we are getting in the mirror! Good luck with reaching your goal, you can do it Smile

Congratulations on getting started. That's the hardest part. You've done really well so far. I'm using MFP so if you'd like a buddy let me know!

Except that she was telling the truth and was probably crying inside watching her sister endangering her health.

There is this mindset lately that its wrong to point out to friends and family that they are getting too big.
Its apparently even more wrong to say the same about children and to restrict their diets.

And then those same people wring their hands about the obesity epidemic.

OP
Well done. You are doing it for yourself which is the only way.
You will succeed.

She didn't need to say it on front of the whole family, it's a conversation that needs to happen in private.

talkinpeace Saying something to someone in private is totally fine, and if done in a nice way.. it's the way it was done infront of everyone.
