low carb diet and back pain?

I am 34- when I was 22 I suffered disc degeneration in my lower back. Life was hell for two years- think 16 tablets a day Inc diazapam and high dose painkillers. Not being able to even get out of bed on frequent occasions etc. Then I got better.
Fast forward to now and I work as a T.A in a reception class. I started there in September 2013. Since the beginning I found that during the first half of the week my back would be really painful towards the end of the day and in the evenings. Getting in the car would be difficult and doing anything would hurt. This just became the norm and usually by midweek my back was ok again.
I started a low carb diet just after Christmas and this pain vanished- I mean completely vanished no problems at all.
I recently went on holiday for a few days during easter and was eating carbs during this time. When I came home my back was killing me. Went straight back on my diet and the pain has vanished again.

It has to be related. Has anyone else experienced this- do u know the science behind it? It just seems a really odd thing to be related. Thank you :-)

This could be down to inflammation. Wheat can cause inflammation in some people and therefor pain. Do you think that this may apply to your back problem?

Oh I hadn't thought about that at all. But yes I suppose that would fit. I was desperately trying to figure out what the connection could be but it seemed really obscure. Will read up on it. Thank you

I get back pain if I eat wheat, not as bad as what you describe, but I think it must be some kind of inflammatory response. Perhaps a paleo no grain diet would be ideal for you, they only really carbs in the way of some root veg and fruit. At least it's a good incentive to stick to your diet!
