Hi,
I'm 13,but my cousin has let me borrow her account so I can post this. I seem to have a problem controlling my weight, but I don't know what is causing it: I appear to gain weight rapidly whenever I eat anything, for example at dinner tonight I ate 3 small bread rolls, 1 sausage, half a burger and salad, followed by 1 merrange nest, lots of strawberries and a small scoop of ice cream and, having weighed myslef before and after the meal, I have gained three pounds. My Mum has an under active thyroid gland, but I'm not sure if I have this condition. What could be causing such rapid weight gain?

At only 13 you shouldn't be focused on the scales & getting hung up on weighing before & after meals.

Get out & be more active. Maybe cut the carbs a little bit.

Does your mum follow any kind of 'diet'?

That's not weight gain, that's just that you've just eaten! Your body hasn't even really started to process the meal at that point so don't panic. I would only ever weigh myself first thing in the morning, after using the toilet but before eating it drinking anything. Please don't weigh multiple times a day, its pointless and will only lead to you worrying.

That being said, you're only 13! If you're worried about your weight just do exercise that you enjoy and don't eat too much junk. You'll be fine :)
