CiderwithBuda · 27/11/2014 17:26

After Megglevache's inspirational thread and photos showing her FIVE STONE loss I am inspired to start yet again.

I'm not dieting. I'm just going to avoid wheat and sugar. And good waaaayyy back on wine.

So no bread, pasta, biscuits, cake, sweets, white rice etc.

Please join!

Me. Definitely.

(Although I often join threads like this and disappear so I must keep posting)

Not giving myself any restrictions per se (because my head is not in a great place diet wise) but I want to eat real food and no white crap.

Glad I'm not alone! I'm the same. Great at starting but not so great at keeping it up. Would really like to lose half a stone by xmas. And my rings are tight and I know if I cut out wheat they will fit properly.

I'll join, but I have been on weightloss threads before (and FB groups) and fallen by the wayside.

I'll ditch as much flour and sugar as possible, also potatoes but I don't want to go totally no carb, so will carry on with fruit, rice and. I find it easier to modify breakfast and lunch but not the evening family meals.

Oh and I need to lose 4 stone. My rings are tight too.

I'm up for it, although I've got lots of opportunities coming up where I'll fall off the wagon. So I'm hoping a support thread will help me climb back on again when if that happens. Good luck all Grin

Great cider , so when do we all start ?

Report
CiderwithBuda · 27/11/2014 18:20

Well I've sort of started today as other than two digestive biscuits my food has been ok.

Breakfast was two slices of rye toast with no sugar peanut butter.
Lunch was hummus and a pot of an M&S couscous salad with cranberries and pecans.
Then two digestive biscuits.
Snack was two oatcakes with peanut butter.
And dinner was half a pouch of mixed grains with roast veg and goats cheese.

But I do have some wine for later so will start properly tomorrow! Although DH is back and we are celebrating his birthday. Sigh. There is always something!

Coming up to xmas is hard as we all have social stuff on I'm sure. I'm going to try the 80/20 rule. Good 80% of the time.

And desperately trying to get away from the all or nothing approach. I'm either full on a diet for a day or so or full on eating crap mode for days. So trying to generally eat healthy rather than worry too much about portions/calories etc. At least at the moment.

80/20 rule is what my slim Aunt swears by , so all week she is good and then on the weekend she eats what she likes , well Friday night until Sunday evening . She says she doesn't feel deprived this way , also if she goes out for a meal on Friday night , she is still so full she doesn't eat that much until Saturday evening .

frumpet · 27/11/2014 18:29

When she says good , she just eats smaller healthier portions during the week .

That still sounds like an awful lot of carbs. I am a bit of an evangelist for cutting out carbs - I gave up all the obvious ones (bread, rice, potatoes, pasta) ten weeks ago and have lost ten pounds. It was so easy, I haven't felt hungry at all, I have loads more energy and my skin is better.

Report
CecyHall · 27/11/2014 18:37

That's great if that works for you. I don't want to do low carb- the restrictiveness assists my already disordered eating patterns.

I am just going to eat good whole foods.

CiderwithBuda · 27/11/2014 18:41

Bluestocking - it probably is a lot of carbs. But other than the digestive biscuits its not what I call crap carbs. No white bread etc. and it is a day where I wasn't really cutting anything out. Hence the biscuits! But for me it is better than the earlier part of the week. The part where I ate a cheesy baguette and jam doughnuts and crisps and toast and kit kats and other crap.

I know cutting out carbs completely works. But for me it instills and all or nothing mindset. And then I fall completely off the wagon. Hence not managing to stick to Bootcamp or outing this thread in low carb diets. So I'm going to try not to get too caught up in saying I'm low carbing.

I'm not totally convinced about cutting carbs, whenever I take them out of my lunch I'm ravenous by 3 even with a high protein lunch and if I have a sandwich it keeps me full for ages. I'm going to try again though. I find just trying to eat like a slim person is what helps, minimal snacks, small portions, no binging on crisps and biscuits etc.

Bluestocking · 27/11/2014 18:54

Fair point. I find it much easier to cut something right out than try to cut down. I'll get my coat.

I'd like to join please. I've been cutting out carbs breakfast and lunch and only having a small portion for evening meal. I'm mainly trying to cut out wheat as feel like it bloats me... But I love fajita wraps so that's my only weakness.
Am hoping to loose some baby weight as a result, fingers crossed.

I have more success with total cutting out when it's specific foods (say crisps), but whole food groups is too restrictive for me, I'm not prepared to give up fruit in the name of low-carbing for example. It would be nice if this was a thread for all sorts of people following whatever strategy works for them, so those that want to no-carb can and those that don't do it their own way.

Unfortunately I LOVE just about every form of carb food and am not a huge fan of quite a few vegetables, I'll eat them but I can't say I really enjoy them. Love salad though.

Anyway, just had a dinner of steamed salmon and carrots with basmati rice and a little sweet chilli sauce, so that's not too bad.

Good on you! This is so fantastic! And thank you Cider! Flowers

I think you have to find what works for you and the way you are/choose to live. Some people are better when they totally restrict and they are more focused, other prefer the more relaxed and curbed approach. You have to feel happy not miserable, this is not a quick fix. I always thought it was!

Hi Megglevache! See what you have started!

Bluestocking - don't feel you have to go. It's fine to have a different approach if it works for you. I just know with me if i say I'm low carbing I will do great for a week or so but then really struggle, get bored and fall head first into a loaf of white bread!

But cutting out the crap carbs that none of us really need is more sustainable. So I will have some grains, some rye bread, unlimited veg and some fruit.

None of us need white bread and cake and biscuits etc. And it's usually nutritionally void so our bodies cry out for actual nutrition but we just think we are hungry so we have more crap. Eating balanced meals of protein, healthy carbs and lots of veg (or just carbs in the form of veg) is much better. Our bodies gradually realise we are being nourished with proper food and our appetites diminish. At least that's my theory!

I found you!

I plan to weigh myself and take measurements in the morning. I will then weigh in on a Friday and not take measurements any more than once a month.

I have special K porridge in so that will need to do breakfast but just had a huge fruit and veg delivery so plan to meal plan in the morning before doing the food shop. I would love love love to see a 14 on the scales for the new year!!!

I am a bit like you cider, I got down to 13.13 2 years ago and I have gained back every lb in 15mths Sad. But now is the time, I want it so badly and tonight really inspired me.

First weigh in and not 'quite' as bad as I thought. 15st 2.75lbs. No idea how though as I feel fatter that I did at 15st 7lbs.

I am planning a mixture of low carbing, trying to keep to natural sugars and WW points - mainly as I know I managed to lose a few stone with pro points.

Are we going to have a weigh in day all the same or just whenever we feel like it?

Unfortunately I've been awake with Coughy McCougherson most of the night and just want alllllll theeee crap food today. I'm so tired!

Report
WildFlowersAttractBees · 28/11/2014 08:00

Sorry you have been up all night. A weigh in day sounds like a good idea. I like a Friday as if I blow anything over the weekend I can pull it back instead of blowing it mid week then watching everyone have treats at the weekend!
