If I'm 5.6, 15 stone - is it right that I wear a size 14/16?

I wasn't sure where to post this really. I'm curious as to what others musings are on this.

I'm just 5 ft 6, just under 15 stone. I'm currently looking at healthy eating, portion size. and doing C25k. I'm booked for a breast reduction for my huge, heavy boobs in November (34HH). The thing I'm slightly confused about is weight/clothes size. On MN often I here of people who weight 2-3 stones less than me who where the same clothes size. I'm normally a 14, 16 on top sometimes to allow for boobage. Sometimes I can fit a 12.

Seeing as I'm classed as dangerously obese this surprises me. I'm beginning to wonder if my boobs weigh a stone!Grin

I know there's a big difference in clothes sizes but I find it all very strange.

Possibly the boobs. I'm slightly taller and similar weight and size 18.

But my boobs are much smaller.

The one thing I've learnt from these threads is how massively (excuse the pun) people's sizes and weights vary!

I'm 5ft 2 and when I was at my heaviest (11 stone 5 pounds) I was wearing a size 14, and sometimes that was straining at the seams!

I find it surprising that you wear a 14/16 at that weight. I'm 5ft 6, 11st and wear a 12/14 and am a 34G
However only you know if your clothes fit you or not and if that's what you fit into then that's what you are. It does sound like your boobs are making up a lot of weight.

Blimey! You see, that's a huge variety! I'm finding my clothes size an even bigger mystery now. I don't get it. Also, I don't doubt I'm obese but surely these weight charts are an exact science.

I an the same height and have just got down to 15 st 9lbs. My size 18's are pretty loose now and I am wearing quite a few 16's. I think lots is dependant on how weight is spread out.

I'm 5 ft7 and weigh 11 and half stone. I also have ridiculous norks - 32j. I wear a 14-16 on top and teeter between 12 and 14 on bottom.

I am 5ft 4. In June I weighed 12st 11lbs and wore size 22 shirts!

I wear size 14 jeans depending on the brand. For instance I can't fit into Oasis but can with Next, Tu, Gap or FatFace (must be cut much bigger). Skirts I'm a 14/16 depending in the cut. I have summer dresses from charity shops that are 14 but some size 14 won't fit over my shoulders.

I'm not denying I'm really fat, I just find the clothes size thing a bit bizarre. Maybe I am all boobs?

I am 15 stone and 5' 6" and wear an 18 on the bottom and 20/22 on the top (36GG boobs) although I got a size 18 dress for a night out recently.

A lot depends on the brand and how your shape fits into their sizing. When I was 15st (I am 5'6") I was a size 18-20. Now I am 11st I am a size 12. But some brands are bigger than others - I could fit into an Evans size 14 when I was a size 18 everywhere else.

I'm the same height, same size and weigh 11 stone. Boobs are 34/36EE. Most of my jeans are size 14 from Next. Size 14/16 is not really fat.

I think dress sizes vary enormously.

I am trying to lose weight after baby no2. I have lost quite a bit already but still weigh 11stone 10. I'm 5'3. I had to buy a size 18 in trousers in Next yesterday!

But to be fair, when I was 9 stone before getting pregnant, I was always a size 14 in Next on bottoms! (and a size 10/12 everywhere else)

I'm 5'8" 11.5 stone with 32g norks and mostly wear size 14, sometimes a 12.

Yes it depends where the weight is. I think most stuff is cut to fit apple shapes. I weigh a 2.5 stone less than you but am same size. I have to get 16 due to my huge arse. But then then things are massive around the middle. I also have small boobs, so yours could well be responsible :o

I am 5'5" 12st 6 lb and a 16
My weight is all on my tummy and I have slim legs. Total apple. When I lose weight it comes off everywhere BUT where I want it to come off! I am trying hard for health reasons, though.

Some of the places that you shop in are good at vanity sizing and perhaps you're selective with what you choose. I'm 5ft6.5 and if I'm 11st odd I'm a 14, 12st odd a 16 and so on so at your weight id be 20/22 which would be about right for your 44" chest I'd have thought

Well I have dropped at least a dress size over the last five years or so. I was a size 12 and I now find a size 10 is often too big. Have even found the odd size 8 fits every loosely. Funny thing is I have only lost around 5lbs.

I think clothes manufacturers are sizing down. Why? I suppose it makes people feel better, even if deep down they know they are kidding themselves. As noton says they are into vanity sizing.

Best to go by weight and not dress size.

44" chest Notonaschoolnight? My back size is 34, but have HH cups.

I'm prepared to hear that all my clothes are vanity sized perhaps - however I've never worn a 22 in any shop.
It's interesting that you can go down a dress size and only loose 5lbs. I think I've toned up a big recently due to excercise but haven't dropped any weight - maybe 2lbs on and off?

Im 5ft 4 and 11.5 stone (used to be 13.5) and I wear size 16.

Most of my excess weight is on my belly and bum so trousers are often loose on my legs but I couldn't get any smaller round the gut. I have got one top which is a 14 but a bit snug atm.

I used to be a 20 so very happy to be buying 16's, although 12-14 would be lovely!

I am 5 foot 7 I weigh 13 stone I wear 12/14 bottoms and 10/12 tops.

I think how you store the weight has a lot to do with it. I know i tend to store around my internal organs rather than surface because when I am 11 stone I were exactly the same size as I am in now.

Additionally I have been size 8/10 and wieghed 11 stone but it was literally all muscle and toned muscle at that. Not keen on BMI but that is another story.

Personally I wouldn't worry about the dress size, it means nothing as it is not consistant. I would work on the weight and inch measurements. Always measure yourself at the beginning and periodically when losing weight. Weight can stall but inches might not.
