Ooh have found a thread that applies to me and isn't 700+ messages long [excited]

Though hardly a 'new mum', my girls are 9 months and 2.6 years, but I'm only now getting my life in some semblance of order following birth of second.

Am currently 153lb and want to get back to wedding weight of 134lb by the Summer (note vague seasonal target rather than specific date!)

So far I've given up sugar (7 weeks now...), been doing free weights and loads of cardio. I've lost precisely...1lb. Whoopdedoo.

I went running for first time in 18months on Sunday and I still haven't recovered. I couldn't even run for 2 minutes at a time GAH. I'm so unfit. Started 30 day Shred today which went ok.

Anyway, Hello!

Hi Worship.

How are you finding giving up sugar? I am a card carrying sugar addict, I have had very bad chocolate cravings since the birth of my second son 11 week ago. I have given up wine - so I've kind of given up some sugar. I haven't had the balls to go running yet, but I've been going on 40 minute walks every second day and the pain in my legs afterwards is pretty full on. I like that you've picked a season rather than a specific date, it gives a little lee-way.

We all seem to have different weigh in days on the last thread. I weigh in on a Wednesday and lost 3 and a half pounds last week (my first proper week trying to lose weight using weight watchers). Sleep weighs in on a Saturday. What day is your weigh in day Worship.

I've had a very chocolate-y day today, DS1 is out and I'm a bit bored and there's tons of Easter mini eggs in the house. Why oh why are they so tasty. But I've pointed them and deducted them form my weekly propoints. I now have feck all weeklies left.

How are you getting on Sleep? Are you facing the unavoidable point free soup (vom!)? Have you started your couch to 5k? Glad you're motivated or I may have to go all drill seargent again.

Hi Solitude,
My main problem was sugar in tea, I'm only just accepting it without. I just took in so much sugar that way and it had to go. Giving up fizzy drinks and sweets wasn't hard for me as I don't really have them (except chocolate at that time of the month...). I haven't given up alcohol completely either - I need to. I feel way better though - less headaches - even if it doesn't show on the scales.

I am thinking of no-carbing but I don't know if it's a good idea to give up so much stuff at once. However I am getting desperate now as I'm not shifting the weight and it's all on my stomach.

I'm exercising like a nutter, around a demanding baby. When I say 'running' it was more sort of 'fast-tripping' along the road and as I say I couldn't keep going for more than a minute, I was hanging Blush I'm doing C25k. I'm back at work in a month so I have a mini-goal of getting to 145lb by April 13th (8lb in 4 weeks) which is ambitious but if I focus I can do it.

What is your goal?

I try to weigh in on Monday morning but I sometimes forget. I need to be more strict about it.

I low-carb every second day (a one day on/ one day off sort of thing), I find it a more gentle approach. Carbs make me sluggish so I try to avoid pasta and bread. I like pizza though.

My goal is to lose a stone by Easter. Then another two stone after that . I'm quite motivated at the moment so I'm trying really hard.

Welcome Worship.

Impressed by you giving up sugar, I am such a chocolate addict I couldn't do it. I am low carbing though, only having carbs at breakfast, weetabix (Still bf).
I haven't done exercise since before got pregnant with DD and she is now 8 months, would like to start couch to 5k. Dusted off the wii fit, but not used it yet…Apparently it was 600+ days since I last used it, surely that's not correct :)
This is my first serious week too, I was very half hearted before. I want to lose 28lbs. I think it's better to draw a line under previous attempts so loving the new thread.
Sol - I will have used all my points up today, had a really hungry day but managed to avoid the biscuits. DS has a temperature and feels rotten, poor little man. They are both tucked up asleep now.
Lemon sole and salad for dinner, followed by a small amount of chocolate. I can do no carbs as I know I can have a little treat. I might have a Prosecco. It's been a long day.

Oh and I have stopped have banana's, never realised how much sugar was in them!

Sleep - I think I need to low carb. It sounds great when you put it like that! I'm not even that bothered but carbs are just EASY when I'm cooking for everyone. However I just logged in MFP and carbs are 50% of my diet Blush Breakfast and dinner would be easy for me but what would I eat for lunch? I usually have bagel or sandwich or soup n bread.

I have a wii fit too, it would say about 4 years since I last used it, and the little man would bloat outwards big time!!

I'm feeling really motivated right now, my DH says I am rushing things and doing too much exercise too soon (having barely moved for 18 months) but I have to grasp it whilst the urge is there. I'm mixing it up with Shred, running, skipping, crosstrainer, weights and DDR because I get bored easily. Tomorrow I'm getting my New York City Ballet DVDs out for the first time, that should be hilarious!

Sleep - try C25k with me! I've only done the first run so far and to be honest I'm going to do it again because I was so crap. I had to keep stopping to walk even when the woman didn't want me to.

Worship - are you going to to be an exercise monster and male Sol and I feel like slugs? Just be honest now :)
I could start this weekend though maybe

So, I have soup for lunch or sometimes the previous nights dinners leftovers, prawn/chicken stir fry or curry.
I have a sauce if ham if ravenous or a handful of cashews. I love highlights hot chocolate.
Sol - is much better at making interesting dinners. I need to make more effort.

Hi everyone, can I join you?

My girls are 8mo and 2.10 yo. I've lost 10lb since January doing 5:2, but last week I just couldn't do it and ate continuously. Blush
I've joined Weight watchers online this week. I really need a kick up the bum. I want/need to lose at least another 40lb. My target is to lose 50lb this year.

Report
SolitudeSometimesIs · 14/03/2014 12:45

Hi all,

How's eveyone getting on today?

Hi Greenrabbit, that's a great weight loss. How did you find the 5:2 diet? I was interested in trying it but I was worried I might gorge myself on the days I'm not dieting. Your target sounds similar to mine, This is the year to get my body back.

Sleep and Worship sound like they are going to be our exercise bunnies. I'll be seeking they advice when I get myself organised to work out again.

Ugh! Had a crap day yesterday. I had my salad planned for dinner and everyone else was sorted and then we had guests who invited themselves for dinner - but we had no dinner to give them because DS had already eaten and DH was having leftovers - so we ended up ordering a takeaway. I'm so annoyed at myself. I felt like I couldn't sit there eating a salad while they dug in to takeaway - it seemed a bit martyrish - so I had some and now feel awful about it.

BUT in a bid to do some damage limitation I will have minimum points today to try and claw back some points. I'll als have nowt but points free soup and fruit before I go out for dinner tomorrow so I'll have 29 points for dinner. If that makes any sense.

I really am commited to losing weight through weight watchers, I'm so annoyed that I sabotaged myself. But I am back on track and will remember how awful this feels the next time I want to go off diet.

So you people doing WW how does it work online?
I'm quite tempted but I'm not great at calorie counting or watching everything I put in my mouth and I imagine for WW you have to be because it all converts to points doesn't it?

I'm going to change my weigh in day so I'm in sync with the rest of you so what shall I go for?

Did Shred day 2 today and it was easier than yesterday although I struggled to motivate myself to switch her on. God she's annoying!

Hi GreenRabbit wow what a great loss so far [impressed]. It doesn't matter what I do, the scales only change by 1lb and that can be either down or up!!

Hey Solitude - onwards and upwards after the salad/takeaway debacle (I'd have done the same). I'm off to my parents for a few days and suspect I will be called martyrish or faddy or some such but I'm going to try and low carb whilst there.

Report
SolitudeSometimesIs · 14/03/2014 13:04

See that's the thing Worship - it would be discussed at length by DH's family that I had had a salad and what diet am I on? How much weight have I lost? Should I be eating that? It brings too much attention to it all. I hate all the interference.

You can low carb on the quiet. even reducing carbs would be good to do if you're away on holiday.

Hi Solitude. I was quite motivated on the 5:2 for the first 6 weeks, but then I did start to get quite obsessed with food on the other days. I didn't lose anything for the last few weeks as I was eating far too much on weekends and snacking on an evening. I'm a bit of a binge eater anyway so I thought Weight Watchers might help me re-educate myself!
The fast days themselves were fine. I just made sure I planned my meals and used MFP to count calories. I didn't eat till after 12 each day.

I really need to do more exercise. The most I do is walking, but DD2 is quite slow, so we don't get anywhere fast. I'm usually too tired on an evening to move from the couch. Does anyone have any tips on how to fit more in?

Report
Greenrabbit · 14/03/2014 13:39

I meant DD1 is slow at walking not DD2.

Report
SolitudeSometimesIs · 14/03/2014 13:46

I have no idea how to fit more exercise in to my day. I try to do some balancing when I'm washing bottles, I stand on one leg and swap legs when I change bottles. It engages my core and gets my stomach muscles doing a bit of work. My stomach muscles are destroyed after 2 pregnancies and 2 c-sections so every little helps.

I'm a binge eater and definitely an emotional eater so I was wary of the 5:2. Are you doing propoints or the new ww plan?

I'm only just fitting any exercise in and the baby is 9mo! I think it depends entirely on your circumstances. I would struggle if my toddler was around all day tbh - exercise DVDs would be a no. I can't get up any earlier than I do, as baby is still not sleeping through and I'm knackered.

Could you get a buggy board for DD1? It does make it awkward to walk but at least you could go at a pace. Uphill walking is good! Cheap exercise bike or X-trainer and do it in front of Corrie? Skipping rope outside on a nice day whilst kids play? I plan to go out for a run on a Saturday/Sunday at least, leaving kids with DH for 30 mins - he can cope! I think as nights get lighter and baby sleeps better I can run on evenings too.

I'm doing the 30 day plank challenge which is only a minute out of the day and at least makes me feel like I'm doing something if I can't fit anything else in.

That's all I've got!

Welcome Green :) Brilliant weight loss. Well done.

Lovely - 4 of us now. Sounds like are children are all a similar age, DS is 3 this month and DD is 8 months.
Sol - don't worry - you have been so good otherwise, hopefully the scales will reflect this :) Out on Saturday - envious, not been out in the evening since pre DD. Have fun.
My weigh in day is Saturday (I am then going to have Saturdays off). but this week I am weighing in on Sunday. I have been vv good, stayed within points and not touched weeklies (yet).
Exercise bunny hmmm - I haven't done any, not even my post c section ones, I can feel my back is weaker so I really need to do at the very least some balance/muscle strengthening ones.

Tip of the day - do not go food shopping while hungry. 24 creme eggs, 9 magnums, 2 large packets of the big chocolate buttons later….. (I hasten to add all put away and not consumed!!

I am allowed 1 sweet treat in the evening though, todays is a lindt egg (the ones that are squishy in the middle). Can't wait. I will be indulging in prosecco too.
So to claw points in for all that.
I have had weetabix and ss milk - 6 points
Soup -3 points
Dinner ? chicken stir fry approx 6 points
Leaves a lovely 20 ish points for ooh 2 glasses of wine and the egg - yay!!
