AnnieLobeseder's MyFitnessPal Support Group Inaugural Thread

Hello everyone!

I have been using MyFitnessPal to log my food and exercise, and I'm finding it a lovely tool to use (I love the barcode scanner!!), but I need to add some accountability.

When I successfully lost weight for my wedding, and kept it off until the DC arrived, I was part of an online diet community where we had support groups, and even some fun competitions between teams to reach weekly weight loss/exercise goals. I found it really worked for me. I was more able to resist that extra slice of cake when I knew that it everyone would know about it, and that I would be letting my team down if I didn't make my weight loss goal for the week.

So, since MyFitnessPal allows you to have friends from Facebook, I have formed a secret (you can't see it unless you're a member) Facebook group, and I'd love you to join me there.

I though that in the beginning, we'd just go for mutual support and accountability, with MyFitnessPal posting our daily summaries so we can all see how each other are doing. Then maybe later on, if people are keen, we could even try out some friendly competition.

Who's keen? Shout out on this thread, and I'll PM you the link to the group.

Ooh I'm keen! I think I would benefit from some outside accountability as well as I start each week with good intentions and logging all food but then drift away. Thanks for starting this now- I have a holiday in 7 weeks so would love to get a stone or more off by then.

Hooray! You get a gold star for being first to sign up!

I have a wedding in May that I'd like to lose a few pounds for, but mainly I want to be at a healthy weight by my 40th in November. My new slogan is "Fit and forty not fat and forty"!

Fit and forty is a good slogan. I'm trying to get pregnant again so may have to switch to a maintenance diet rather than weightloss if I actually get updiffed.I am quite heavy at the moment so would hate to get pregnant and end up even heavier post-baby. I am a bit crap at keeping up with threads but will do my best and will check Facebook page now Smile

Well, I'm a few years too late for fit and forty, but as I have yet again managed to lose about a stone on MFP before totally falling off the wagon with at least two stone to go, a bit of extra motivation is badly needed here too.

I started again in Jan and said I would keep it going for a year no matter what, but lapsed around the end of Feb and then again over Easter.

I have never really felt like I wanted to be on a thread about it, but FB would work well for me, thank you Annie

I'd like to join please. I've just given up on WW, but haven't given it a fair go. I went to a wedding at the weekend and in the photos I look like a fat, shiny blob. I need to sort myself out and set a much better healthy eating example to my DCs. I really like the daily nutritional breakdown on MFP. Haven't discovered the barcode scanner, but I'm shopping later.

I'm BFing so have added 500 gals and will reduce this as DS's weaning progresses.

Yes go on mfp works for me when I log everything. Have fallen off at the moment :( Realised it is my silver wedding aniversary next year and would like to fit back into my dress although this is highly unlikely, I should give it a shot!

Ooh I'd like to join please. I have been using MFP since July and have lost just over 4 1/2 stone. I have however fallen off the wagon recently and whilst I haven't gained the weight loss has really plateaued (which it was always going to). I would like to lose another couple of stone and definitely need some new motivation.

Welcome everyone. I will pm you all later (at work on my phone now).

Johnny, did you get the link to work in the end or do I need to actually invite everyone?

Apologies for the start-up technical hitches....

Sounds impressive annie but I really did have loads to lose after spending most of adult life being really overweight so it fell
off ridiculously quickly at the beginning. As shown by the fact that I still have 2 stone to lose and 3 stone if you go by those BMI charts as I am a complete and utter shortarseGrin.

Annie-the link didn't work, it came up as not having access to the page (but did take me to Facebook so link did work IYSWIM). I've PMed you my name so you can try to invite me. Glad to see there'll be a few of us.

Okay, I think the way this will have to work is:

  1. I send you my Facebook name (which is fairly unusual so you will definitely find me)
  2. You send me a friend request
  3. I accept the request and invite you into the group

I am about to PM everyone my Facebook name. Use it wisely!!!

OK, thanks Annie. Could I just ask, if we all end up being "friends" I would like it if we could respect MN privacy and not mention MN or nicknames on each others public walls?

AnnieLobeseder · 08/04/2013 19:09

I think that goes without saying.

Waves back at Ellie

Yes, I'm sure it does, it's just that I have some MN friends on FB who are very open about being MNers, which is fine but I try and keep my head down.

Haven't made a very good start today Sad

Hi Annie!

I would love to join. I first joined MFP a few years ago, and for the first year did nothing with it.
I then used it actively for almost 9 months and lost a fair bit of weight.
Then I lost motivation / interest and have now done virtually nothing for 6 months. I tried to get back into the swing of it a few weeks ago but just cannot find the motivation.

Can you give me a kick up the backside with this group? I really really need to lose some more weight (not to mention the bit I ahve put back on int he past 6 months)

I've friended you now Annie.

whoknows - yes definitely no mentioning MN on each others' pages! And even if you've not had a great start just minimise the damage as much as you can and start fresh tomorrow.

I've logged my food today and have done very well despite accidentally eating two biscuits. I keep forgetting I'm trying to eat healthily but it really makes me realise how easy it is to overeat and go over calories.

I went to a friend's house for coffee and she had just baked flapjacks and brownies, it would have been rude to say no!

Might not have been too bad apart from that, will log it all later.

Disclaimer:- I am currently on holiday. If I don't post on Facebook group until tomorrow and don't open MFP tonight then I don't have to start until tomorrow when I get home because I have profiteroles to eat tonight and wine to drink.

Hello, can I join please? I'm on MFP, same name as this if anyone wants to find me on there too. I do things better with company, even better with a bit of healthy competition!

Hi everyone!

So, the page is all set up, some of you have already joined me there but no-one has posted yet Sad.

I've set up a special list of friends on FB where I'll put all of you, and I've set MFP to send updates only to people on the list. So hopefully that means I'll only be boring you guys with whether I was on target each day instead of all my friends!! I can't get MFP to post the updates on the actual group, so they will appear in your newsfeeds, but hopefully only you will be able to see it!!

But so far so good!!

Thanks Annie - it has just popped up in my newsfeed and I then clicked over to DH's Fb account and checked my profile as one of his friends and you can't see it, so the privacy all appears to be working. So long as we post into the group and not our walls it should all stay private.
