Anyone doing 5:2 AND BREASTFEEDING?

V specific question and I know Michael Mosely said not to but just wondering if anyone is doing 5:2 diet and breastfeeding? DD is still EBF and will be for another month or so till weaning but I'm really keen to start. Is it possible to just up fast day calories to 800-1000? Don't want to lose the weight loss advantage of BFing.

I asked this question recently and a few posters said that they were. But, DS is 16mo and weaned, so he feeds more for comfort rather than nutrition. I assume your DD is still tiny if she is still EBF, and no diet is recommended at this stage.

EBF a baby is hard work and takes a lot out of you. She'll be supping up those calories. At the moment just try and cut the "bad" stuff out of your diet (if there is any), then think about the dieting once the BF's have cut down.

Honestly, there is lots of time to diet. Give yourself a break at the mo! Smile

Thanks member DD is 5 months. I had GD and we are planning to have another baby fairly soon so would like to shift as much weight as poss before another pregnancy. Thought the BFing might boost the weight loss or mean I wouldn't nead such an extreme fast :)

Could you try something like weight watchers until you start to wean? They have plans for breastfeeding an it would be a start for you then switch to 5:2 when they're taking less milk?

Hi glass I did WW years ago but the whole point thing just seems a faff at the minute with DD - in my head easier to cut back a couple of days. I'll maybe try just having two meals and no crap a couple of days as I can do that fairly easily. I was just curious to see if anyone is doing 5:2 whilst BFing and getting tips on how many calories to have.

What about 2 days where you just have really good healthy foods then 5 where you can have a few snacks etc? Just until dd is on solids. I don't think it would affect your milk but if it did you'd be really upset.

There is a post on this on the 5 2 hints and tips which I out in but its by literary geek, worth a look :) I think you would new to modify it slightly to make it work for you. I am not breast feeding, if I was I would prob fast one day a week and go for 1800 the rest of the week. Or 900 3 days a week and no calorie counting the other 4 days.
