Slimming World - can you save up your syns?

I'm doing the old Red/Green plan that I did years ago (have no clue about the new Extra Easy and whatnot) but I've forgotten whether you can stockpile your syns. If I'm allowed 10 a day, can I have zero syns on two days and then add 20 to the following day? Or is it just 10 a day and use them or lose them?

I could quite happily go Monday-Thursday without any syns but I need more than 10 a day for Friday-Sunday :)

Thanks!

Yes you can!

So you're allowed 5-15 syns per day, do I go with 10, which is 70 per week. I like to use them on a weekend when DP is home so it feels like I'm eating 'normal food' and don't have to cook twice, then go syn free/minimal for the rest of the week.

You can't save week to week though.

Good luck!

Woohoo, fantastic!

How do you decide how many syns to have? Does it go on how much you have to lose, or how quickly you want to lose it? I know that a consultant is supposed to tell you but I don't want to go to classes.

To be honest I've never had less than 70! I think if you have none at all or very little even for a few weeks, you're going to feel deprived and end up binging (sp?) and going way overboard, and that week will be buggered.

It's not like the old Weight Watchers where you have so many depnding on your starting weight, everyone has the same allowance. That's the beauty of SW!

I love my class, my consultant is lovely and I get loads of recipe ideas and things from other members. I'm not on commission, honest!

I can easily do 70 in a week, I reckon, so will stick with 10 a day then. Thanks so much for your advice! (love your MN name, btw!)

I've been a SW consultant for 18 years and what i say to my members is that we don't recommend 'saving' cos it can give people licence to binge, which is possibly what brought us to this stage in the first place :-( if you need a few ( a few) extra syns over the weekend then have them, enjoying a flexible day, but not as a matter of course. With weight loss, it's all about making changes, and that could mean making the change to the way you ate and drank before you joined SW? Keeping the weight off is the name of the game, and this can only be done by change :-) And don't forget you have up to 15 syns a day anyway = 2 measured glasses of wine ;-) Eat free foods (not forgetting your suoer free 1/3 at mealtimes from pages 11 & 12) and you won't go wrong...

Hi Janis, thanks for your input! That's a very good point about saving leading to bingeing - but 2 glasses of wine on a Saturday night isn't enough :) I reckon that I need 20 syns on a Friday & Saturday so I was thinking of having that and then no other syns throughout the week.

I don't know anything about superfree 1/3 as that's a newish thing, I presume? I'm doing the old red & green from about 10 years ago.

I mean, 2 glasses of wine? On a Saturday night with the girls? It's not realistic. Just like 4 chocolate buttons when you're watching a film isn't realistic. I think if you're doing slimming world and you're committed to losing weight then you have to restrict yourself no matter what, in which case, Janice is absolutely right. But, and it's a big but, if you're living your life and you want to lose weight gradually without losing your ability to socialise comfortably, then drink what you want for an evening, eat what you want for an evening, but think carefully about it. Don't eat/drink everything you see like someone on the green mile (which is what I have done in the past). Eat till you're full and be merry till you're full of beans, then make allowances for the next day. You can't stop your life for syns. And you can't sit there and think syns won't stop your life. They will. Pizza express isn't a realistic option on a Monday night anymore. You can't nip to the local indian restaurant on a Saturday night without pre thinking your order and getting your book/app out. Slimming world may well be a way of life (bear in mind I do enjoy the system) but no matter how it's advertised, it is a diet. You can't eat and drink foot loose and fancy free anymore, just like on any diet. You can't have a cream tea with your mum on Mothers day without thinking how badly off plan it is. I want to lose weight. Therefore, I will restrict what is put in my mouth. However, I have no qualms about the fact that I will enjoy a doughnut again in this life time. I will enjoy roast potatoes cooked in goose fat and have a dessert to follow after that. I will not spend my life worrying about my waistline. Because what kind of life is that?! But I will actively try and put myself in a position to enjoy those naughty extras BECAUSE a system such as slimming world has helped me to measure the good with the bad.
Don't listen to all the 'holier than thou' bullshit. You know what feels right for you, you know how you want to live your life, so go out there and be happy. Have 4 glasses of wine and don't feel guilty about it! Live your life and love who you are, in line with, or in spite of, the diet spiel. This is your time on earth, use it how you think best.
