So we have survived week one, more or less intact Grin

There has been a lot of cheating along the way - either intentional or accidental - but most people seem to be getting on with it and embracing low carbing. And we have seen some spectacular results already!

As one of the cheaters, I can tell you what you will already have discovered for yourself:

This way of eating (WOE) is an unforgiving one. If you slip up or cheat, it will show up on the scales

I know it's hard. I drank wine on both Friday and Saturday night. But it really is up to you how strict you choose to be - and therefore hopefully you will understand that it is up to you how much weight you are losing.

I realise this sounds patronising. But it's the ultimate truth of this (or any) diet.

Having said all that, I also know that there are some people who are struggling, and for whom weight loss has been very slow.

Just remember, if you have less weight to lose, then your rate of loss will be slower than those who have more to lose. And any loss, even if it's only a pound or so, is still a loss. Visualisation is always helpful for me if I think I've only lost a pound this week. Remember, a pound loss is like two packets of lard! That's a lot of fat.

And if weight loss is slow, or you're not seeing the scales move, have a long look at what you have been eating and drinking, and be really honest with yourself. Have you been following the rules? Have you been allowing carby things into your diet? Have you being drinking enough water? Try keeping a food diary so you can record everything (and I mean everything) that you're eating and drinking, as this can help you identify what might be affecting your progress.

If you still can't work out why it's happening (or not happening!), post what you've been eating and drinking here, and others might be able to help and advise you.

Anyway. Lecture over! Welcome to Week 2. Hopefully you will all see significant loss this week as well. But those of you who have lost loads in week 1 - don't expect to see the same kind of loss in this week - it's inevitable that it will slow down. Remember that sustainable, long term weight loss is around 1-2lbs per week.

And those of you who are struggling, hopefully another strict week will get things going for you! And I also hope that everyone has got through their carb withdrawals by now, and you are all feeling fantastic!

Onwards and downwards ... Grin

I've been doing this for 13 weeks now and had a spectacular start losing 7lb the first week and 4lb the second. Since then I have lost on average 2lb a week, with weeks where I've stalled and weeks where I've lost loads.

You just have to stick at it and change your thinking about what you eat, drink loads of water and get yourself organised WRT what's in your fridge, what you are going to cook for the rest of the family, and making sure you have emergency rations if you are in a situation where you would normally grab a sandwich (out shopping for example.)

Oh, and for anyone who is a bit Hmm about the amount of fat you are required to eat, I posted last week that I had a cholesterol check and my reading was 4.5 (5 is the 'acceptable' score). Bear in mind that I am still 192lb and my BMI is just over 30, so I was pretty pleased with this reading, and it just shows that you can eat 'good' fat without compromising your health.

As BIWI says - onwards and downwards!

Thanks BIWI - need to get focussed properly this week - hopefully no distractions till Friday when I'm going out - but that's a Barbecue so should be manageable - bar the vino of course.

Still am definitely feelling the benefits of last week and REALLY enjoying the food - lots to eat and nice, proper homecooked meals where I feel like I'm really indulging - was sort of doing WW before and was just so unmotivated with it.

Also sleeping lots better and full of energy. LC rocks!

Checking in after a fairly disastrous weekend tbh, but onwards and upwards

Scrambled egg and a pint of water so far!

thanks for the new thread biwi adn the pep talk!

this week I need to continue to drink plenty of water and up my exercise - I did nothing last week other than a couple of short walks. i drive 1hr 15 mins each way for work and have a desk job with lots of meetings, so I really do have to plan being more active. I know it's not essential with this WOE (and I have still lost despite not doing anything last week) but it does make me feel better

that's good to hear re your cholesterol ilove. I do feel good about that fact that I'm eating basic fats (butter, oil etc) rather than low-fat substitutes. it's taken me a while to get my head round it but i do feel more satiated with the real deal and less likely to crave later on

Morning all! My plan today is:
B: 3 x rashers bacon, a baby avocado and a dollop of mayo
L: Mackerel pate with salady bits or Spinach soup (is v. cold and rainy so might not want salad)
D: Stirfry veg with marinated tofu pieces

Am attempting to curb the cheese and egg fest my life has become to make sure I don't get bored of eating them!

Morning Bootcampers.

After my pasta rant yesterday on the other thread, I'm glad to say it didn't affect my weightloss and I'm another 1lb down. That's 7lb in week 1. I'm worried this is a bit too much too quickly and might add a bit more good fat. I'm concerned about maintaining it as I'm not usually very good at that bit! I'll see how it goes this week, I think weightloss slows down in the second week anyway?

Report
BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 09:16

Don't worry, fff - it's unlikely you will see the same loss in week 2. Just celebrate the 7lbs off so far!

But definitely worth adding in more fat. (Although that won't slow down loss ...)

Morning All and especially LondonLottie (we're over here now!).

Still feeling like crap. Definitely a bug as food poisoning would be through by now (in my unfortunately extensive experience).

Had chicken thighs for brekkie as could not face egg, and have a utterly divine salad for lunch, incorporating more of the yummy cheese and chive dip followed by brocolli and st agur soup (with another thigh if required) for dinner. So no plans to dive into toast and wallowing (and no real desire for toast although a hot cross bun dripping in butter - STOP).

Problem I foresee is the water. My stomach feels sore, not crampy, just an ongoing pain. The idea of piling 3 litres of water in is not really working. I usually have at least a litre in the system by now but I've only got a pint. At work and out of the house all day (self-employed and skint so no blardy choice).

Have my two litre bottle, brought fizzy as more tempting and hope to get through it. Should I up my tea intake (black) as I could easily drink a tonne of that or will that be worse?

BIWI or someone - is it really possible to lose half a stone in a week if you only weighed 9 stone something in the first place? Seriously? As if you were 10 stone say and lost half a stone that's 5% of your body weight in a week!

Morning. Am having a.black coffee. I hate coffee, however its the one thing guaranteed to get my bowels moving. Feel a bit sluggish.

Scrambled egg for breakie. Lunch a chicken salad. Dinner roast chicken. Still not managed any exercise but hopefully things will calm down here this week.

I've gone from 9st2 so 8st8 so what's that? 8lb loss? Have I got that right? Maths is SO not my strong point!!!

I've had problems this last week with nausea and a tender tum - it's Fibro/IBS related not the diet. Mayo is now off the list for me and I ended up increasing my carbs to stop the nausea - so low carb mostly but small amount of carbs at breakfast. Now the nausea has settled, I'm going to try reducing the carbs again and see what happens this week.

Creamtea, I do think it is in part water retention but my clothes and eyes are telling me I have lost a BIG chunk of weight (sitting at 9st 3 from 9st 10).

Thanks Maria - having a quick read but off to a playgroup shortly where no doubt I'll be seen scanning my phone reading this thread Grin

I am really struggling at the moment with the motivation to lose the weight because every time I do lose it I just put it back on again. All seeming a bit pointless. Every time I go on a big weight loss drive, I get SO into it, really get off on the success... but then reach a decent weight and it all goes to pot. This time I even treated myself to some really nice 'thin' clothes, all of which are now sitting unworn in the cupboard and yet again I'm facing a summer with no decent clothes which fit! Argghgh.

'Ello 'Ello 'Ello.

No change on the scales this morning and I've been so good. So my thinking is this:

I am probably not getting up to my full 20g carbs. I might struggle with this - maybe I could add some tomatoes in or something. Anyway, so I'm going to have to start weighing and counting. I know I'm in ketosis (I have those sticks) so I'm presuming this means that the problem is not enough carbs as opposed to too many?

Cutting out the dairy for a week - although I've only had about 4 tablespoons of cream and a couple of chunks of cheddar all week. Hmm

Could it be the exercise I wonder? SURELY that should be pushing my loss though...

Anyway, as I said yesterday, I feel great and so am determined to carry on, but I do think that there's something going on with no loss for 4 days. Hmm

BIWIWhoMustBeObeyed · 23/04/2012 09:48

It could be the exercise, Shirl - muscle is heavier than fat. How about how well your clothes are fitting?

If the ketostix are showing darker pink, could it be that you're not drinking enough water?

What about fat? Are you eating enough? Adding more fat/water into my diet was what really started the weight loss again for me.

londonlottie - best advice I can give you is stop thinking about what will happen when you get there. This is a fantastic way to self-sabotage! Yes, it's an issue you will need to face - but not yet. You have got plenty of time to figure out a plan for that. In the meantime, see it as the little devil of a thought that it really is!

Maria - sorry you're still not feeling great. If you can't stomach the water, why not try having it hot? It can be a lot more soothing that way.

Shirl Grin - thanks.

IME one thing which really got me going (after a stall or very slow loss) was Intermittent Fasting. Much easier to do when you're in ketosis anyway because the appetite has slowed, but I would then eat all my food for one day from approx 10am - 5pm.

Report
ShirtyKnot · 23/04/2012 10:00

There's no inch loss either BIWI. I am officially stalled - which is a bit GRRRR because I've only lost fricking 1.5 pounds anyway.

I'm drinking the water (drink gallons anyway) and adding fat to every meal. Got a fab rapeseed salad dressing for today and have smothered my chicken in mayo. The ketostix are pale pink, but PINK NONETHELESS Grin

I'm OK, I'm just telling myself that it WILL start shifting, but I'm a bit worried that I've drifted into "starvation" mode because of the running and the probably not getting up to 20g crabs per day.

SO. Plan for today:

Breakfast - 2 x boiled eggs mashed with mayo and a whole avocado.
Lunch - spinach, cucumber, celery with roast chicken in mayo. Homemade garlic vinagrette.
Dinner - Chicken curry, cauliflower rice and UM UM UM - can I have some suggestions please?

Because - look! does that look like 20g carbs to you BIWI?

A gentle run with a friend and body pump tonight.

Feeling really despondent this morning. No wine over the weekend, only cheat was a handful of tropical mix, drank buckets of water, have limited non water drinks to one cup of weak black tea and a can of Pepsi max, and have put a lb back on, making it a measly 2.5lbs. I feel slimmer though, have lost an inch off my waist, and people commented this morning, so maybe I logged my starting weight wrong? I did start ramping down the carbs from mid week before the official start and my weight on the Thursday was 13.0 so it's still 5lbs in a week and a half altogether (in spite of two chocolate bars on Friday)...
Trying to stay motivated, but can't face food yet this morning. I picked at a couple of slices of roast beef, and planned ham for brekkie, but the ham DH bought on Saturday has demerara sugar as an ingredient :( I can not face another egg based breakfast....help.
And I am very tired, thanks to my youngest, which always has me diving for a pile of hot buttered toast.
I also have crampy muscles this morning and feel like I'm wading through treacle, but I hope this is the tiredness aggravating the lupus rather than the start if a flare. I feel like I'm back at square one.

It could be carb creep being generous

And 5.5lbs in 10 days is bloody good! I think not feeling well is probably clouding how you're feeling about what you have achieved

Take it easy today - rest when you can, and don't beat yourself up.

You are definitely not back at square one
